  1. I didn't know also that bids can be retracted in CL. I'm thinking it could be a bogus bidder.
  2. I was looking at that copy before it sold. Very nice looking book. I knew it would sell soon.
  3. Not sure if that's the case now. Seems like more women are into superheroes, comics, and comic book movies than ever before.
  4. Might very well be a good time to pickup a copy
  5. Agreed on FF 1 having the most growth potential. Still an undervalued key and the beginning of Marvel Comics
  6. Yeah saw the news on msn.. Glad he is fine. Can't believe he had a 100% blockage!?! This is why you should always pay attention to your body and head to the hospital if something seems off.
  7. Stop thinking and just do it I'm sure each of us can share a story how we wanted a book so bad at that time that instead of buying the book then, either the price of the book went skyrocketing up making it unaffordable or it's rarely seen for sale.
  8. I would predict you would have at least 2-3 copies if you were to buy them then I wish I had a story like that. I never really did have any comic relating stories that had to do with my family that I can touch base with. My dad used to have a stack of comics he told me from the GA, but unfortunately his mother threw them away when he went to medical school
  9. Very nice and touching story Rick. Thanks for sharing!! Can you imagine if the book was either an Action 1 or Tec 27 instead of the Whiz 22!?
  10. Glad you are keeping it SA talk in the SA forum Yes, someone had to break the ice
  11. Same thing goes for SA books. Comparing the value of Avengers #1 to their individual first appearances like TOS 39, IH 1, TTA 27, JIM 83.. The individual 1st appearance books are right around or worth more than Avengers #1.
  12. So since you're selling some whales, where's the Moby D*ck #1 CGC 9.8?
  13. Sure anything is possible and can't only be one thing that's driving prices up or down.
  14. I think the bump on SA keys may be due to the huge increase of AF 15 across all grades we have seen the past couple years. Seems like the other keys are playing catch-up, which makes sense since AF 15 is the driving force for the SA.
  15. I think the WD franchise is still as big as ever with a whole lot of followers and fans. I don't think the WD 1 book will slide down in price any time soon. From the last few sales, seems to be selling as much as it has been for a year or two now. And with the new series that just aired last night, it will reinforce its popularity again.
  16. I really don't know. There's another 8.5 copy at the current CC copy, but not as nice looking due to that black writing on the "X". I guess we shall see where that copy sells at? All i know is that strong eye appeal books sell for a premium, sometimes more than a higher graded one. Looks like it is becoming the norm now as more and more people are taking notice unlike in previous years. But in the last HA Sunday auction, I noticed quite a few record prices. The FF 1 CGC 3.5 sold for around $8500, the Hulk 1 CGC 3.5 UK copy sold for around $9500, which is about where a US 3.5 copy sells for, and of course another X-Men 1 CGC 5.0 for $6k+. New market prices? Looks like SA keys are catching fire.
  17. I was going to post about the strong prices for both FF 1 copies. I wonder if the popularity of the Black Panther movie has any influence on the FF title now with these new sale prices. These new "outliers" with record prices are showing a trend now, that these are copies with strong eye appeal. Looks like more and more people are buying the book and not the grade mentality as opposed to previous years.
  18. Yeah the chipping on that copy is definitely in the category of minor and not severe. Other than that a very nice looking copy. Congrats!
  19. This is not true from my understanding from people who have chipped copies. CGC does take away from the grade if a book has marvel chipping, but it isn't significant compared to a stain, actual piece missing, etc. That statement would be true though if it were tape. if a piece of tape was placed on a book to secure both covers together, CGC would grade the book as if the tape wasn't there at all, which would be completely detached and split. Have you ever seen a book grade higher than a 7.5 with marvel chipping?
  20. Harley had a beautiful CGC 7.5 Tec 225 that appeared to be a legit 8.5/9.0, but it had a dust shadow on the BC. We both agreed that defect cost the book at least one full grade point. Thanks for sharing Ben
  21. I don't think the book can be upgraded with that dust shadow on the back cover top to bottom. I'm sure without it, it would . Other than that a tremendous looking copy.
  22. Some great suggestions thrown out so far, but it all depends what era you are looking to put your $ in. There's always going to be a number of books from the golden age, silver age, bronze, copper, modern that are great investments and could erupt in value at a given day. All boils down to supply and demand. Just buy a book or books that you would enjoy having. I think GPA Analysis would be a good starting point to study and analyze both past and current trends of books especially for silver age and newer. When it comes to platinum or golden age books, sometimes it does not give the full picture.
  23. I'd grade it as a 2.5 and I would not consider that black marker dot on the page restoration. There is no purpose for it to be there and did there was no attempt to make the book better. If it were on any of the black parts of the cover than yes it would be considered restoration. I don't think I've seen a book grade out as being restored with a black marker dot or streak on a page.
