Honored to be there as "kid" buys his first ASM1

I'm definitely happy for the kid. That feeling will stick with him forever, especially for a big book like that 👍. -

Yeah I was that kid too.. I wish I can re-live those memories because of that excitement I had in my eyes and that feeling of "Oh my gosh, is that an AF 15/ASM 1/DD 1!?" Only difference is that I couldn't afford it and my parents wouldn't hand me the $ to buy them because they thought the price was absurd . I remembered a DD1 in high grade, must've been at least 9.0 that was displayed on the wall of some antique store. I even remembered the store guy's name (Cory). He had a yellow shirt on with curly red hair and glasses. I asked how much the book was and he said $900. I was just please mom, can you buy this book for me? Of course my mom said no because of the high price. I just couldn't take my eyes off of it the whole time I was there. Then when we went home I called my dad and asked if he can lend me the $. He actually thought about it and talked to my mom over the phone, but my mom still said no as it was too pricey especially for someone of my age. I balled out crying the whole night... I visited the store a couple more times just to gaze at the book when I had the chance (this was by the way around a half hour or more drive). Sadly over time, I dunno what became of that book. -
Are prices still climbing or have they eased up a bit???

Yeah it boggled my mind how this book graded as a 9.9 with that ugly mis-wrap at the bottom. It's fairly common too for this particular issue. I had a copy with a perfect wrap top to bottom and it only got a 9.8. I also didn't see any defects on my former copy. Just craziness.. Must be the White Pages. Anyone else notice that books with white pages have been significantly selling for much more than "lesser" PQ? There seems to be a group of people who are pumping up white pages that it is the only thing that matters when it comes to buying. I've never seen such a huge increase % wise before... -

Silver age comics that are heating up
Dark Knight replied to rabidwolf's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
Times have changed with practically any collectible. Prices have gone through the roof even the ones that have none or small yearly growth. Yeah everyone has been saying Showcase 22 is due for a big jump, well this may be the big jump we are seeing. Sure, it's not as big as Marvel keys but it is something lol. It's a cool book and great to have if you're a fan of DC/Green Lantern, but if buying purely for investment, I would not recommend it. I'd rather stick with the household name Marvel key books for higher growth. That's just my opinion. -
Well Batman is my numero uno favorite in DC and Spidey is my numero uno in Marvel. Because Batman #1 does not feature his 1st app and not even his origin and also Robin is on the cover, if we're basing this off without monetary value, I think I would choose AF 15. 1st app/origin story plus better cover. Oh and I do enjoy the storyline too! Now if this were Tec 27 instead of Bat 1, then it's a no contest for me and would pick Tec 27 without thinking twice.

Strong price I thought for the Showcase #22 CGC 6.5. Sold for $12,655 -
Book has been undervalued for years. It seems that there is more interest now since 2017.

Yeah, I know.. I was just messing with the whole sticker thing. I do understand that #11 is very rare in grades 9.0 and higher and sure the 9.0 price paid can be justified. It definitely set a new record price I believe and seeing how it beat out ASM #2 CGC 9.0, ASM #3 "9.2," and ASM #4 CGC 9.4 was definitely eye popping. A completist will surely try to win practically by any means to obtain the desired grade that fits their collection. I believe this was the case here with at least two of them. -

I'm wondering if a 9.9 sold previously .. Don't really know how to value such a rarity!! Well, at least it beat out the Transformers #1 CGC 9.9 that sold earlier this year for $44k
