  1. I am curious, Steve. Can you tell me what the shipping is to you? I ask because this mob is enrolled in eBay's beloved Global Shipping Program and the cost to get a single keyring to me in Oz is an eye watering $US19.04. Just never going to happen.
  2. My significant other procured and gifted me a Flash #123 (Fine+). Couple of years later a VF All Star Western #10 came my way. If she keeps it up I might let her stay . . .
  3. Oh, the memories. The companion comics, "Wham" and "Smash" are not mentioned, but were available here. Those comics announced the arrival of "Pow" and I was all over it. Newsagent reserved a copy for me every week and when #8 "didn't arrive" I made my mother drive all over the place to other outlets to secure the missing issue. That's when my true CDO* presented. *OCD, but in the CORRECT order
  4. Beautiful toys RM. Needless to say there were no dime banks available here back in the day. Are they good sellers for you or does it depend on the character? By that I mean I imagine they all sell, but some much faster (and at a greater price) than others. "The dogs hate them". It's weird that when one finds something irritates puppy dogs it is an immediate invitation to repeat the experience
  5. What a terrific, if boring, toy. The "boing" sound is just delightful. People forget how huge Buck and Flash were back in the day. Which reminds me, do you ever come across ant Prince Valiant toys? I don't mean premiums or flicker rings but genuine toys? I'm thinking probably not, as excepting "playsets" I am hard pressed to think of anything with a "play action" that could be spun off from the strip.
  6. Such a strange colouring choice, giving the cover green highlights. I wonder if a mistake was made, given the spine is similarly coloured. All locked down down under, Went to the Post Office today, and that was a surreal experience.
  7. First time I have seen one of these and now I want one, pence or no pence. A great "crossover" character. Sgt John Basilone, yes, a real person, featured heavily in the Spielberg/Hanks et al series "The Pacific" . If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favour . . .
  8. Pleased to note you got it. Couple of points . For those unfamiliar with the Oz national flag, it actually has a field of dark blue. The "red" one depicted is the naval ensign. Minor point but worth clearing up any confusion. I was going to ask what the sign behind Snow White's dwarves might have been, but now I think it's just a loose interpretation of a War Stamp. And let me get this straight. "Fill all the above spaces with Sixpenny War Savings Stamps and ..... it will be exchanged for a One Pound War Savings Certificate". There are 32 spaces, 32 x 6d = 16/- (4 shillings short of a pound). So on maturity, I get a Pound for my 16 bob. Any idea when the bonds matured? Last point (for now) I like the twee way that "6d will buy three rounds of small arms ammunition and can, therefore, save lives of three Australian soldiers". Yes, by killing the enemy. Oh, and until now I don't think I have ever seen a hand grenade described as a defensive weapon.
  9. "Duff up other toys". Well, the cat's out of the bag now. I knew my secret shame would be discovered at some point and it is a relief in many ways. I would like to place on record that Duff doesn't "up" just any toys. "Mint in Package" playthings are, of course, beyond the pale.
  10. Thanks for your input. Now I know a lot of you are going to roll your eyes, but this was posted as a request from a (non-boardie) friend. Anyway, it opened my eyes that CGC can detect sticker residue/cleansing agents. This I did not know. I'll forward a link to this thread to the fellow who asked me. Thanks again.
  11. First, a little background. Australia converted to decimal currency on 14 February 1966. At conversion, one shilling was equal to 10c. U.S. funny books had been imported for some time and the US cover price was ignored and the price set at one shilling (1/-). Some times this was written on the cover, sometimes not. With decimal currency arriving, I believe it was feared some unscrupulous vendors would seek to take advantage of the change over and charge the 12c cover price. more than they should. The upshot is that almost all the comics that arrived at Gordon and Gotch (the Australian distributor) around that time were stickered with a bright white "10c" tag right over the (printed) 12c. See below: Here's the query. Remove the sticker, returning it to its original state or not? It can be done but it is fiddly. Qualified or purple label? I have a view but I'd rather listen to some other arguments first.
  12. You're welcome. Now if I can just derail Andrew's thread enough so that it becomes the entire Board telling me how crash-hot I am, it'll be "Mission Accomplished"
  13. I know how long you've been looking for one of these - and this one is in very nice condition. You are right about the Catwoman. The stories that featured her from the early days were a real "pot-luck" as to what outfit she'd rock up in and whether she'd be villainess or seductress. An "Elseworlds" before "Elseworlds"? Didn't DC describe them as "imaginary stories" which even as a kid I thought very funny, I mean all of them are imaginary, but I suppose putting something like "Non-canonical" on the cover would produce a lot of head scratching in their customers.
  14. I love the shameless cross promotion of contemporaneous Australian western comic "Lone Avenger" authored by the notorious and infamous Len Lawson.
  15. I like the posts, and did not realise how popular and HOT Louise Brooks was. I am a big "old Hollywood" fan, but the pre Hayes posters are ones I have not seen before and are in part wonderful. Art Deco meets soft porn. Lovely.
  16. "Your problems discussed by Dr Harold Gluck". I'll need to see some credentials . . . And is it just me that sees oversized women's heads in Charlton romance comics? They look odd.
  17. Even the work experience kid would have taken more care in cutting and pasting than the adult in charge. It really was "wild and woolly" back in the day. I do like the distortion of the panel in the last page to accommodate the Simba's paw. A delightful conceit.
  18. Duffman_Comics reporting for duty. I figure this is the comic AJD is referring to: The censorship in the fifties was really random. Panels cut, liberal use of whiteout, word balloons and captions ham-fistedly changed. Just no clear rhyme or reason.
  19. I thought there was a window in the sail of the submarine. It is advanced, after all, but I am not sure how much light is available at cruising depths. I am puzzled by all of the figures swimming around the sub in the splash. At first I thought it presaged a little EVA by our heroes in the story, but there are only four of them - and six swimmers. Looking closely, they must be associated with the villains. But not the "Belotti" the giants' slaves. They are hairy. Oh dear. "We'll have to darken our skins". They are mounting a mission in blackface
  20. I cannot let this one go unobserved. Caterpillar treads on a submarine? That'll do wonders for the underwater hydrodynamic profile. Unless they're retractable. Even then, so I have managed to get a submarine onto land and move about. So what? What possible arms can I use without opening up the hatch and allowing the crew to be picked off one by one. It's a very small hatch. Just ludicrous. A guided missile on a submarine? Spot on. Wait. They don't have propellers. Or wings. Which would be useless flying at stratospheric altitudes. Very thin air. "The motor cuts out and the missile homes in on target". Ummm, that's not the way it works. The "V2" had that design feature (as did the "V1" but it wasn't a rocket). 300 mile range? Woefully underestimated. In essence got it right, missiles on subs, but everything else wrong. Lastly, who wouldn't want to crew a submarine being launched into either orbit or sub-orbit. What an exciting landing.
  21. Bloody tiring. There was a flare up south of me at Herons Creek. A State Forest concern but we get to go too. Nothing much, under control but needed patrolling. Now we have had a little rain which is great, but EVERYONE is so on edge that they are jumping at shadows, calling emergency numbers because they have "smelled smoke" or seen some smoke "they think". And those calls cannot be ignored. We have to go and check. Still, we'd rather go out and find nothing than find ourselves calling for support and spending the next twelve hours on a fireground. Thanks for the interest, now off to annoy Andrew!
  22. Consider me annoyed, so mission accomplished. That GI Jane looks in great condition compared to other 9d Oz comics I've seen. Anyway, carry on. I'm a little buggered, after more firefront duties.
  23. As I recall, there were (and are) girls that behaved like this. The term was something like "tick deasers".
  24. Well? I can't believe that's the only comic in that box. Come on!
