  1. I thought the Star Trek #1 (DC) cover OA went for a low amount considering the cross collecting of Star Trek fans as well a Comic Book collectors, it being a #1 and the announcement recently of a new TV show on CBS streaming in 2017.
  2. I'm glad I won one that I can add to the collection that's from the Howard Greber collection and is also a Haight-Ashbury Pedigree as well as one of 3 of the highest graded copy with one of my favorite Corben covers on it. Lost out on my favorite Corben cover, but I'm still pretty happy. Unexpected additions to the collection. Guess I'm branching into Underground OA (both covers). Both from the Ray Zone collection and published by Ray Zone. Original Cover Art for Hoodoo (1988) by Mary Fleener. http://atomicavenue.com/atomic/issue/123512/Hoodoo-1 Original Cover Art Painting for Brain-Bat 3-D (1992) by XNO. http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/brain-bat-3-d/rjrri
  3. Hey, that was me. The only piece of original comic art I own is a Frank Brunner page my father bought for me at a comic shop appearance (Graffiti in Culver City) in the mid 80's, until today, bought to cover art pieces. This one. http://comicspriceguide.com/titles/brain-bat-3-d/rjrri Can't believe I'm going to own a original painting by XNO and it's also a published cover art. The colors are much more apparent in the original painting. And this one. http://laluzdejesus.com/tax-day-re-sale-event-2015/#jp-carousel-11710 (was for sale for $1k at a well known Hollywood Gallery just this year, was the Ray Zone collection being displayed there?) for this one. http://www.counterpointla.com/pages/books/46313/mary-fleener/hoodoo Wasn't planning on bidding, but got back from the post office just in time to see the end of the session and thought for published comic cover OA they where going for a low enough amount that I'd take a shot since I collect exclusively Undergrounds. I won both on my last bids, wasn't going higher for each. Guess I'm joining the club... Well I wish the line had been a little longer at your PO then ha ha But seriously if they couldn't end up in my home, sounds like they went to the next best place! Maybe better as these are your #2 and #3 buys, they definitely mean even more to you than is coming across in your post. Likely I will regret not pushing a bit harder for the rest of my life, so instead I'll just say..."if you change your mind someday, drop me a line :)" Congratulations again on your two offbeat additions and I'm really happy meet a fellow (comic) art fan! Thanks! My first 2 OA purchases and their both Cover Original Art, pretty sweet.

  5. Well, the Haight Ashbury Pedigree items in todays HA auction went for a much more reasonable amount. Some of the notable items by price were Best Buy Comics #1 (1st print) 9.8 NOT Haight Ashbury pedigree still went for a $650. Bizarre Sex #8 9.4 Haight Ashbury went for $1.135. Chicago Mirror #3 9.6 (probably the rarest item in the lots) went for $1.3k. Coochy Cooty (1st print) 9.6 NOT Haight Ashbury went for $500. Dirty Duck #1 9.8 NOT from Haight Ashbury went for $380. Dirty Laundry 9.8 NOT from Haight Ashbury went for $1.3k. Doomsday 9.4 NOT from Haight Ashbury went for $597. Fat Freddy's Cat #1 (1st print) 9.4 Haight-Ashbury went for $1.9k but #2-4 at 9.6 went for $300-400 and #5 at 9.8 went for $550. Tales from the Leather Nun (1st print) 9.8 NOT from Haight-Ashbury went for $500. Up from the Deep (1st print) 9.6 Haight-Ashbury went for $525. Zap Comix #1 (3rd print) 9.9 NOT Haight-Ashbury $657. Zap Comix #3 (2nd print) 9.8 File Copy NOT from Haight-Ashbury went for $358. Zap Comix #7 (1st print) 9.8 NOT Haight-Ashbury went for $525.
  6. More impressive rare Undergrounds there. Did you find a nice collection that you bought?
  7. Were you sitting in the front row with shorts on? No, was in the back. Were you checking out the underground collection and mainly standing in the back? Yeah, I just wanted to come by and check out some of Howard's items to see about bidding on them and find out how it all worked on the floor and how it goes when it's only online auction like tomorrow. I remember coming to this place when it was Superior Coin and Stamps back in the 80's to buy stamps with a friend of mine. When I first came in and was standing there, I wiped my brow and then realized that that could cause a bid on my unintentional part and tried to refrain from doing that. But not long after I got there, a guy standing next to me was bidding on a piece and bid $18k I think, someone elsewhere bid $19k and the woman asked if he wanted to go to $20k (not really sure of the exact amounts) and he gave her the cut throat sign and won with a cut bid. He turned to me and said, he was telling her he didn't want to go higher not to give a cut bid. I didn't know if he was joking or if that was a very expensive mistake. Good experience for me to learn what not to do.
  8. Were you sitting in the front row with shorts on? No, was in the back, no shorts (but pants for any smartasses).
  9. I love Heritage free food ))))) I didn't eat any of the Jersey Mike's sandwiches myself, maybe if it was Togo's or Jimmy John's? Just kidding...
  10. Winner of the cover did not get the color guide. Yeah, I don't think it was a floor bidder that won the color guide. Someone on the floor was bidding, but gave up.
  11. Well, this was my first auction experience in person on the floor. I went into the HA and sat in for about 1/2 of it. Only about a dozen people on the floor with bidding cards (I was #12 and didn't see anyone register after me). Recognized a couple people from the con circuit, even if I didn't know their name except for John. People eating sandwiches and drinking coffee, it seemed casual. Checked out a collection, so I thought I would register, stay and watch to get a bit familiar on how it goes. I look forward to checking it out again sometime.
  12. That's some really rare UGs you've got there, erehwon. Anyone watch some of Greber's collection auctioned on HA? Most went for crazy high money, and there were some that shocked me. Zap #1 1st print 9.6 went for only $4.421.50 but high grade commons like XYZ for $2.6k, Motor City #2 1st print 9.8 for $4k, Freak Brothers #1 (1st print) 9.6 went for a whopping $9.56k (who would have ever thought a 9.6 Freak Brothers #1 1st would go for more than twice a Zap Comix #1 1st print 9.6?). Any of the common Haight Ashbury pedigree went for stupid money like Feel Good Funnies 9.8 for $2.27k and Mean person_without_enough_empathy Thrills 9.8 for $1k. Biggest shock to me was someone wanted that Maus #1 Sig. Series Speigelman in 8.0 for a crazy $2.6k (Speigelman hasn't passed yet and there's probably many higher grade copies out there since it was included in an issue of Raw). I lost out on the two I bid on, but I might be there tomorrow. With the crazy prices Howard's collection is bringing in, maybe it's now time for a market turn around on Undergrounds that have cooled over the last couple years. In fact, I'm pretty sure that these prices will cause an increase in Underground Comix interest.
  13. what is holding the book together? Rainbows and Unicorns. And lots of love Doesn't "lots of love" depreciate the value and cause the pages to stick together? Congrats on still getting a 9.8 anyway.
  14. I enjoyed the book and hoping this show does it justice.
  15. Sadly, I just read that Egg Ackley (Howard G.) passed away on Saturday. Howard was one of the big names in our small community of Underground Comix collectors and probably the nicest guy I knew in that community. I will miss his occasional phone calls to just chat about Undergrounds and meeting up with him at SDCC. With such a small group of hard core Underground Comix collectors, the loss is a big one to us all. R.I.P. I know he knew personally people over at the CGC and was over at their FL facility since he lived in the area, so I'm sure they will miss him also.
  16. Anyone know why Marvel released issue #1, 2 and 3 at two week intervals, but issue 4 is 1 month? And will the rest of the series be 1 month or 2 week release dates?
  17. And.... It's back... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Miracleman-1-Gold-NM-288-400-Signed-By-Alan-Moore-Very-Rare-/131511103598?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 Nobody notice one is #268 and one is #288 in listing?
  18. Was surprised yesterday to find only 2 copies on the shelves of my LCS, and I was the first to grab them when they opened. They had about 4 additional copies held in the subscriptions pile. Went to another shop about an hour after they opened and found about 8 or so on the shelves. This really is a slow seller, but if the series picks up when the new stories come out after the reprints, that could start an interest in the earlier issues that didn't sell well. Meaning this issue (#15) might be a good investment like the original series #15.

  20. Just saw a news piece on the Bannded Toys Museum and they had a CGC graded Air Pirates #1. Although it's not really a toy and was never made for children.

  22. That's great, amazing what a little research can result in. Guess my copy just went up in value.
  23. Show up often but made in quantities of 5? Something is off with that statement me thinks.
  24. If you're not aware, the Turtle Power documentary is available on DVD. It's pretty interesting even if they skip the first merchandise items.
  25. Try and find those early appearances in Genus.
