What the hell was McFarlane thinking when he was drawing this guy's leg on the right on this cover?!?!
Seems to be missing a foot.

Every age seems to have some nice covers but in general I had to go with Gold as in most of the covers from that age there is just a hell of a lot more going on on the one page than there is on so many other covers.

just looked at the book date
26 years old on the mark

It is a beauty that's for sure.
here's my most expensive ASM-9.8 to date running me $500.00USD. My newly obtained ASM201/202 were close to this price but a tad under and I should have scans of them soon as well for viewing.
A 26 year old ASM CGC 9.8 that is 1/5 in the Census and with it's black cover almost never comes onto the market in any site:

Ahhhhhhhhhh yes. To get a copy of ASM#1 for any copy of ASM300 is crazy. Glad you nabbed that up and at a minimal cost really as the 300's are readily available if you ever wanted to nab another up in high grade.
I zip through so many posts and whatnot that I sometimes forget whether ppl filled voids or not. That is one hell of a gap to fill though Jon. Congrats again sir!

Good advice was given to me by Richard AKA MrBedrock
"I will say this...once you get a nice Timely book in your hands I promise you will notwant to ever let go of it!"
... and damn true!
so I hear.
You've dipped into that end of the pool now as well haven't ya Jon?
Back to spideys after this question............. :-)

That's a beautiful copy Blue. If I wasn't engaged in a purchase of a collection till next Spring I'd jump on it my friend.
I might know one or 2 people interested in that book. Let me get back to you via PM.

201-300-- This is the run I grew up during and initially got hooked on and it's probably the biggest distractor to my SA run I'm working on
You'd be proud though Richard; my ASM 201-300 run is actually a high grade run (F/VF - NM). BAs are closer to the mid grade range though... kinda drops off in grade the further you go back.
Mine were all that range before I sold them too. My ASM230 was in F but every other book that I had in my run from 160-400 were all in VF/NM - NM/NM+. Someone got a mad deal when I sold all those in 2003/2004 for around 450 bucks as there was a copy of 300 in 9.6 shape and all McFarlanes in 9.4-9.8. Some real nice books I got rid of there. Ah what I've done to feed my high graded books. I also sold my X-Men 120 - 320 run to fund the graded ASM's.
After I'm done my 201-300 run I'm debating going Timely Human Torch & Marvel Mystery or Silver age spidey. Not 100% which way I'm heading yet.
BIG FRIGGIN CHOICE THOUGH>
Good advice was given to me by Richard AKA MrBedrock
This is what he had to say on the matter:
"As they say in other places, 'diversify your portfolio!" Get some Spideys and a few Timelys. Whichever comes along that is most comfortable grade/price wise. Then you have trade bait (that will appreciate either way) if you decide down the road that one appeals more than the other or you need the funds to finish a run.
I will say this...once you get a nice Timely book in your hands I promise you will notwant to ever let go of it!"
Time will tell I suppose when I'm done my run as to what direction I shoot.
Best,
Richard

This thread grew out of some discussions in the ASM 275 9.9 thread in Copper.
WHATT?!?!?! THIS BOOK??
Who's the dummy that paid $550.00USD for that book??
It turns out a couple of us are working on complete ASM runs of varying lengths, and probably many others are too. I'll start... (thumbs u
I've been working on an ASM #1-64 run for many, many years now. (In a sense, it started with some SA Spideys I bought in the 1980s back when then were really cheap!... though I was much too unfocused as a collector back then to make any progress.) Always loved the title, loved the character and have a special fondness for the earlier Ditko issues.
In the last 5-6 years, mostly thanks to ebay, I've been chipping away at filling in issues I need. For the pricier keys, I've been staying in presentable 2.0-4.5 range due to budget, leaning more towards mid-to-high grades as I go later in the run.
Issues I still need: #1, 2, 13, 16, 20, 31, 41, 46, 60 & 63! (Not sure if I'm willing to spend what it takes for #1 and #2, as I prefer to spend serious money on GA rather than SA books...but we shall see.)
So, feel free to discuss ASM runs you're working on (doesn't need to be "silver only"),---- This I had never noticed before Jon. Now I will join in on this thread with my collecting.
how you collect, which issues you're still after, and of course, post 'em if you got 'em, guys!
Good thread and nice job on your collection so far Jon. Any updates since your first posting of the thread? Get #1 or 2 yet? I don't have time to read through it all right now.
I'm moving for my ASM201-300 collection and will post new books once I get them and have scans available!

I like that little 25 peeping through the "window"...
Ditto.
That could be the first to be graded with a window?
-
One of my two targets has been acquired- ASM 15 along with copies of ASM 8, 10, 12, 18, & 19! 8, 10, & 18 are probably somewhere in the Fair range, 15 & 18 somewhere around 1.5 - 2.0, and the 12 (Poor) was thrown in for free. Needless to say, a big advance in the progress of the collection.
(thumbs u Macman you've been and taking names in your ASM collection. Congrats on the new additions Forrest!

Doesn't it trouble anyone that those kids are staring at his crotch?
I'm more concerned that the girl's pigtail seems to be magnetically attracted to it....

Unreal Flee.
Great job on that. Another marvel from Flee
or DC as Greggy would have it no other way

Ok forgive my ignorance please as I am new to these boards. My question is a simple one. I hear references to GREGGY all the time. No matter what topic, GREGGY comes up. Who is GREGGY? Why is he always the topic of discussion. What relevance is GREGGY. Can someone please describe This GREGGY and why so many people are seemingly obsessed with GREGGY?

Sick Comic KS
Unreal snag for anything less than 8K really. Going to have to start grabbing those early ASM books soon in 9.0 or 9.2 as that's the very maximum I'll be able to spend and at that I still probably won't be able to get my hands on issues like 1 or AF15 in either of those grades anytime soon. One can hope though.

Congrats on the completion of your run Jon!!!!!!!!!

Super Congrats Forrest on snagging a book most of us would love to own and some do. I'm yet to snag a #1. Hope to get an AF15 someday first but that would be in the future as well.
