  1. It doesn’t seem to follow a pattern - that book I posted above from eBay is a new slab of the same book, and I have a few other AC's in the new slab. My understanding from board searches is that it’s up to the person doing the encapsulation to decide, but they need to retire those old ones ASAP. I feel like I received an inferior product. And no, the label still says “1st Lois Lane cover”. I wrote that as one of the things that needed to be corrected when I sent it back in but I had little hope they would correct it. I didn’t even bother listing it here as another thing they got wrong...
  2. I submitted this AC #29 for grading a few months back and when I got it back a few weeks ago it was in the old slab and was missing in the title “Wayne Boring Cover”. I emailed CGC and they promptly replied and apologized and had me send it back on their dime. It went back through their hands quickly and they next day air it to me and this is what I find today: And no, that’s not the same photo. You can see they fixed the off-center of the grade and page quality. Oy, I get that they are overwhelmed but this is a waste of everyone’s time. Do I try again? Just deal with a missing cover credit? Not like Wayne Boring is famous or anything Plus, is this usual to still be using the old slabs? They’re terrible quality with the sticker on top and some weird melting on the side. Look how nice this book looks in a new slab (from eBay).
  3. I’ve seen double signatures on books on eBay and it didn’t appear to affect the value. Personally, I think it makes it cooler! Nice sketch and nice book!
  4. Grade is in. I’m happy with it. I’m a little confused why they put it an old wide slab with the sticker on top. And unfortunately they left off the full credits (“Wayne Boring cover” is cut off). Plus they say it’s the first Lois Lane cover even though they said they updated their records (it’s the second). Thanks all.
  5. My condolences. I lost my mom to the same thing 10 months ago. Good luck with the downsizing and glad going through things is helpful.
  6. If you’re going to hold it for 20 years it may as well be fun to look at. While there are so many great covers from all the eras, here are some of my favorite covers. Whatever you choose find the best universal (blue label) grade you can afford. Incredible Hulk #180 - bright yellow cover, fun hulk battle scene and first cameo appearance of Wolverine Fantastic Four #49 - dark cover with great color contrast. 1st full appearance of Galactus. Galactus is cool. X-Men #94 - second appearance of new X-men. X-men falling on cover. Amazing Spider-man #50. Just look at the cover. Also first appearance of Kingpin. Happy Hunting!
  7. Thanks all for your grades - I am really new to GA books and I want to follow-up and ask for opinions. I bought this on eBay from a reputable LCS in my state with a money-back guarantee grade of 2.0. I was skeptical from the pics but trusted their grade because of the guarantee policy. I’m torn about whether to send it back if it is a 1.0. I paid the 2.0 price for it. I know the only way to really know the true grade is to submit to CGC but then I’m out $70 if it’s comes back a 1.0 and I have to crack the slab and return it. According to GoCollect the difference between a 1.0 and 2.0 is $300. Note - this is for my personal collection and not for re-sale. I plan on passing it down to my 7 year old son.
  8. Wait, it makes perfect sense. Sompletely = some + completely. New grading term for when something is 98% there? As in “that cover hanging on by a thread is sompletely detached”.
  9. Thanks for your feedback and insight! I actually didn’t even notice that they had Frankenstein’ed it with a repro. Ouch.
  10. That makes a lot of sense - excellent explanation! I found a few others that confirm what you wrote: Wonderworld Comics #7 - Wrong back cover, cover and first wrap detached Mystic #45 - 3 pages missing plus complete spine split and detached cover Hulk #1 - married back cover and wrap plus comic is a .5 in condition This one is a little less obvious but I’m guessing the comic is .5 without the panel cut out (although the cover looks to be in not horrible shape): Archie’s Madhouse #1 Thanks for the insight! This is exactly the reason why these boards rock...
  11. Saw this on the ‘Bay and it peaked my curiosity (not the price, the grade). It was graded in December. X-Men #1 - .5 qualified I know this is an old thread but was this ever figured out? Is a Qualified .5 the equivalent to a NG? I’m confused how something could be qualified poor.
  12. Thanks everyone for weighing in! I was guessing between a 1.5 and 2.0, so I bet you all nailed it with a 1.8. Off for grading on Monday...will report back.
  13. You all were so awesome with my first submission today I thought I’d try another. For your grading consideration is another well-read book. I bought this knowing it’s the 2nd appearance of Lois (kudos to the seller for listing that, unlike others who just state first appearance since that’s what’s on the pre-2020 label). Here are some notes to help with grading: cover detached at both staples centerfold detached minor rust migration (pictured) complete
  14. Not sure if this helps since it's a different book, but this recent ASM #1 that I own received the same notation on a blue label with no hit to the grade. I'm guessing there is some minor flaw in the book that got it to 9.6. I know this doesn't help your incorrect label issue...
  15. Hey all - new here and love this forum. It’s really helped my grading. This is my well-loved (eg low-grade) X-Men #3 for your grading consideration. Cover is attached at both staples and no loose pages. Sending in for grading soon and will post the result. Thanks in advance!
  16. I'd love that! And I won't speak to the idea because I don't know much about it, but I think the disclaimer they put on the website says it all. The site is https://www.withotis.com/ And here is the disclaimer (which IMO means run and don't walk away from this opportunity): "Disclosure: There is currently no public trading market for our Interests, and an active market may not develop or be sustained. There is no guarantee that appropriate regulatory approval to permit such secondary trading will ever be obtained. If an active public trading market for our securities does not develop or is not sustained, it may be difficult or impossible for you to resell your shares at any price. Even if a public market does develop, the market price could decline below the amount you paid for your shares." For me, I'll stick to buying the actual books I can afford...
  17. Wow, I hadn't heard of that site! Thanks for posting. The one I'm talking about is actually a different one. I did a search on the boards and I didn't see that anyone ever posted about the one I'm referring to. Am I allowed to post their name here? Again, I have nothing to do with the site - I just stumbled upon it.
  18. I recently found a company/site that does that. You can invest in shares of very high keys. Right now they have DD #1 in CGC 9.6, X-men #1 in CGC 9.2, Incredible Hulk #181 in CGC 9.8, GSXM #1 in CGC 9.8 and a few others. I haven't invested in any shares but I thought the idea was intriguing. I'm not going to name the site because I'm a noob and don't want people to think I'm schilling for them. I just stumbled upon it in a Google search looking for places to buy comics online.
  19. Hello! Are the books that aren't listed as "SOLD" still available? Beautiful collection by the way!
