I mostly collect Bronze X-men because that’s where I started as a kid but put together a run of #1-30 a few years ago (sold the #1 but have the rest) However I made the mistake of buying a Marvel Mystery Comics Schomburg cover about 5 years ago and I’ve been hooked since. I try to buy them raw whenever I can and read them. I love WWII history and the covers and stories are such a reflection of that time. I’ve since pretty much dropped all my money (collecting and other) on building a run. It started with trying for 1 issue from each of 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc but then morphed into an obsession. I have 24 out of the 92 issues. Below is a recent pic when I took them out to read a few.

Feel free to share it over here! Lots of great examples in this thread! I’ve got about 20 myself and think they are fun to collect.

I went to a Con in Raleigh and had some of my childhood comics signed by JR Jr. and then sent in for CCS pressing and CGC grading back in July. I received my first book back yesterday (very happy with the grade!) and I do unfortunately have a bend that seems to be causing damage to the comic. Looking at the scans of the book and the notes, I believe that damage you see to the comic below was caused after encapsulation. I believe if that bend was there, CCS would have pressed it out. I’m also concerned that there are some more damage to the spine ticks that were there before. Can I resubmit as a mechanical error to have CCS press out the bend that was created and then have it reholdered please? I fear the damage will get worse the longer the comic is under stress. The evidence of the clear bends and damage can be seen in the pictures below.

Stamped Comic Book
Msgarmar replied to jgoldnick's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Going off topic here - but I don’t think CGC will grade any book with an unverified signature anymore unless you pay for JSA services. If you don’t select that option, CGC will automatically charge you for it anyway. This was a huge change recently and I don’t think enough people are aware of it. What is happening to the CGC Qualified green label? Autographed comics will no longer be encapsulated with the CGC Qualified green label or CGC Signature Series Qualified green and yellow label. Instead, comics with not genuine or unverifiable autographs will be encapsulated with the CGC Universal blue label (the label and grader notes will identify the not genuine or unverifiable autograph) or the CGC Signature Series label (the label and grader notes will identify the not genuine or unverifiable autograph). Please note that the CGC Qualified green label will still be used for certain other qualifying factors, such as when a sketch will negatively impact the overall grade of a comic (see above). Can I opt out of JSA autograph authentication and receive the CGC Qualified green label instead? If the autograph is on the cover of the comic, it must be submitted for JSA autograph authentication. The autograph will be authenticated by JSA and then seamlessly transferred to CGC for grading and encapsulation. If you do not select JSA autograph authentication, this service will automatically be added and the submitter will be responsible for appliable fees. If the autograph is on the inside of the comic, you may choose whether to have it authenticated by JSA. -
Excellent! Thank you so much for the super fast response!

For the just announced Mark Bagley signing, I have two questions. 1. Can I submit multiple copies of a comic book and ask him to sign the BACK of the comics? And if so, will CGC encapsulate the books with the back in front if I request it (so you can see the back cover and signatures in the front of the slab)? The reason is that I own the original art to a back cover that he drew and I was hoping to have him sign the back of the comic and then display the graded comic next to the back cover art. 2. I own a CGC certified copy of a comic I want signed by Mr. Bagley that belonged to the late great George Perez. If CGC cracks the case for the signing, will the new label denote that is was from George Perez’s personal collection? I do realize that I would lose the special George Perez label if I do that. Thank You!

Bad condition Captain America 1
Msgarmar replied to Comicilliterate's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
You must get far in life - you show up to a message board for collecting and grading comics, ask for help, receive great advice, immediately get defensive for no reason, and then insult everyone by calling them coloring books for kids? Ok, cool guy with 134 things on his list. (I got 99 problems, but yours isn't one). -

Not restoration…because the artist did it
Msgarmar replied to Msgarmar's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Anyone who thinks this isn’t restoration/color touch care to try the same thing Todd did on the same book and send for CGC grading? I’m not a betting man, but here I’d bet $$ you get a PLOD. -
Just an observation from a listing on eBay… Seems Todd decided to do some color touch when signing a very nice book and they called it a “sketch” on the label. In the description the seller states the sketch is Todd filling in missing ink from printing (part of the moon near Batman’s face that was missing on all copies). I found it interesting that they called this a sketch, and it’s not considered restoration. Just my ! Sweet book BTW. https://www.ebay.com/itm/385337255157?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=JlBh8G5IRuW&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=jCC3hjR7RT6&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
