Not many people here may remember Andrew Arntfield even by his board name, drewincanada. It was quite a few years ago when we were both regulars here and got to know each other due to us both being Avengers fans and both of us were jokingly competing in building up slabbed Avengers collections. Anyway, we got to be friends and got to meet up some years ago when he visited the UK, you couldn’t hope to meet a nicer guy.
Having both drifted away from the CGC boards, we managed to keep in touch a bit through FB over the years and so I heard about his heart attack last week which he seemed to be recovering from and I wished him a speedy recovery. Sadly, I’m gutted to say that I’ve just heard that he has passed away.
As I said, he hasn’t been on the boards for some time but I just wanted to post about his passing for those who remember him.
Rest in peace, mate.

Hey Pat, hope you’re well. Didn’t recognise the board name so had to figure out your secret identity.

Garry,
I met you at LSCC! I remember you telling the story of the Brad Pitt “Fury” movie being filmed on your farm. Your wife was picking apples in the background while filming. You LSCC guys can really drink!
My plans to attend TankFest in Dorset were canceled by the pandemic.
All the best!
You have a great memory, mine is a bit more fuzzy due to the beer but I do remember that was a very fun weekend that time. I remember seeing your machine gun videos and I remember you bought one of my Marvel T shirts. I’m pretty sure we all thought you were the boardie with the most ironic board name ever.

I’m still around. And, hoping to get back to a show in the UK soon.
Good to see you’re still around, Joey. Looking forward to seeing you over here again one day. Sadly LSCC is no more which is a damned shame as it was easily the best UK con but hopefully the other cons should be going again soon. Let us know if you’re heading over any time.

It’s great to see a bunch of you guys popping out of the woodwork to say hello. I wasted many enjoyable hours here for a bunch of years, even though my post count never showed it.

He's the guy who with Ritter, shilled up a bunch of auctions.
But I can understand how that would not be common knowledge since the expose including the 'shiller' himself confessing in the very thread, got scrubbed clean.
And just like that "Mr. squeaky clean" is here to save the day.
Anyone care to tell Ewert it is a "new day" at the old stomping grounds?
Oh wow, yes I remember that. Had nearly forgotten.

Definitely not as active as it was in the before times, but it seems to have picked up after the lull that occurred following the new boards. Fridays aren't what they used to be, but they are still Fridays.
Ah memories, there were some crazy Fridays sometimes.

welcome back
Some are still around, but they don't post nearly as often.
Thanks. Are the boards very busy these days? It always seemed as if they slowed down over time and then when they made the big overhaul on the site, it died down a lot.

Hey Jimmers, hope life is good with you.
I'm very rarely on the boards these days, just happened to be passing through and looked in at this thread. There only seems to be a few of the old faces around any more.

And for comparison: the Jackal, Doc Warren's alter ego, first appeared in the same issue. The Jackal would then appear 10 times over the next year and a half before his death in #149 (#129, 130, 139, 140, 141, 143, 146, 147, 148, 149.)
As for Punisher...he appeared in #129, then again in #135 (#134 last page cameo)...then he'd disappear from ASM for 2+ years (#161-162), then another two issue appearance a year later (#174-175), and then disappeared for another 2+ years (#201-202), then he appeared the next year in ASM Annual #15...and then vanished from the pages of ASM for 6 years (#284-285.)
9 appearances in 12+ years.
I believe that Giant Size Spider Man # 4 featured Punisher in the time between his appearances in # 135 and # 161. He also appeared in PPSM # 81 and 82 in 1983 which broke up the gap between the ASM Annual # 15 and ASM # 284. While not in the premier Spider Man title, they were at least Spider Man title appearances which makes it sound a little less sparce around that period.
Edit, gaah I didn't even see Jimmers mention of GSSM # 4 till after I posted. 😳

OK, I'm curious as to whether anyone much ever looks at the GPA graphs? I never have done, I'm just interested in the figures and everyone that I've ever spoken to about GPA is the same. Who here uses the graphs and if so, how much?

Ok, I'm lost already. What does the + and check box do? I hit the plus and now it is checked. Can't uncheck it.
Same here, I've got some that I can't uncheck because I was just testing it out. Don't know what the hell I've done to them.

This was a big enough deal for me to log in here again for the first time in ages to see if my opinions were shared by others. Not keen on the update so far, while there are some bits that I like more such as a larger dropdown, generally I find it less user friendly and on a less important note, the extreme black and white is a bit too much. I hope that things will continue to be worked on to improve the site, it's a great service and I want the website to match that.

Hmm, my PMs only go back 13 years, I need 14 1/2 to figure this out. Oh well. My PMs go back to me selling burntboy and mrwoogieman comic spinner racks at the ungodly rate of $50 each and trying to coordinate with both for pick-ups. Right before that is a message from Joe Collector edumacating me on Whitman variants. It is amazing how many conversations I have had wih people via PM I have totally forgotten about (people and conversations) . Apparently I have been corresponding on and off with 1Cool for almost 10 years (this I was aware of because we did so recently, I just didn't realize it went back that far). I was finding listings on hotjobs for one guy who was unemployed and giving PM therapy/guidance counselor sessions to one of our teenage members (won't name him, but old timers will remember him).
Hope you put a CAP on those counsellor sessions, wouldn't want the kid to FREAK out.

I really can't remember, it was 12 years ago now.

Damn, I thought my guess of ASM # 300 in 9.6 would be closer than 13th ranked.

To the best of my knowledge, trimmed books should always receive a purple label and should always have it noted on the label. This would be far from the first time there's been a mistake on the label though the first time I've seen a trimmed book with a blue label.
-
The slabs not being bagged wouldn't be an issue for me but the raw books should've been at very least bagged and should be boarded if not extremely low value. If not then there should be some kind of notication prior to purchase stating how they will arrive.

Yes, and their dad passed away just a couple of months ago. All three of them in a very short space of time, must be so tough on their family.
