  1. Roy, got to say...score!!! thats one sweet 5.0!!!
  2. Andrew, that would of been so cool. Your books, with your designated Pedigree on them, it couldn't of been sweeter! That would of been a very elite club to belong to
  3. I saw it at the SDCC some years ago. If you cracked the 9.9 out of its slab and a few 9.8s as well and asked me to pick out the 9.9, I probably wouldn't be able to. It did not look "Mint" to me; I recall thinking that there was enough minor wear there to call it a 9.8. But, the submitter got CGC on a good day, way back in the day, and now it's in a 9.9 holder waiting for some sucker lucky buyer to add it to their Registry set some day. I think so, it's just such a fickle thing, with a lot of 'good' 9.8's equally looking the part. Not something I would be happy to put my money in without an excruciating inspection. And I do buy top census books all the time.
  4. Very cool thread, and a very rare oportunity. Thanks, Tim, and Andrew. Andrew, was there any books you 'couldn't part with', curious to know, thanks (thumbs u
  5. Welcome to the boards. It would help if you could tell us more about yourself so we could understand where you're getting your information from. I could make a comment that saying no restoration was done but the books were pressed is a contradiction in terms, but will resist. Although I am depressed to hear that Matt is working his "magic" yet again on books that managed to sit very nicely in Mr. Toth's collection for decades without needing any artificial assistance. The LLC looks worse in the Heritage scan, and the same LRC crease is there in the Heritage scan. I remember commenting on it when it was first up for auction on Heritage. His sig line say "David N Toth" so I assume we are welcome Mr Toth to the boards. I thought the collection was intestate But welcome to the boards if your still alive, and kicking (thumbs u
  6. Get the tissues ready.....your going to be crying a lot!!! Clink Feb/Mar auction has the very first Avengers #57 9.8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rocky Mountain ped to boot. no scan yet, your only hope is a fugly miswrap I'm not too fussed since I know what I paid for this one and it was cheap. I'm guessing the 9.8 sells for $20,000+. Half that (thumbs u
  7. Get the tissues ready.....your going to be crying a lot!!! Clink Feb/Mar auction has the very first Avengers #57 9.8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rocky Mountain ped to boot. no scan yet, your only hope is a fugly miswrap
  8. It was snapped up quite fast. Why is this book worth that much???
  9. Nice pick-up's Rich!! :applause:I never thought the 70 would be parted with... What's with the white on the spine on the 101 lol Never thought the #70 would see this side of the Atlantic either!! As for the #101, he claimed perfect centering I guess that's what passes for perfect in the UK!! Rich, a small thanks wouldn't go astray at some point
  10. Korvac, I have to take my hat off to you on this pick-up, a stunning book, from a stunning pedigree Thanks Brass (thumbs u It's been on my radar for so long that I had to pull the trigger or go :insane: It would look great next to your #43 MC!! I hear ya. In this instance I'm holding firmly for a good while. I use to own a 9.2 #43 for years, then sold it witha lot of other early TTA's. So rebuying the issue as the ped 9.4 represents returning to a firm favourite for me. Shame I just couldn't of joined it with it's pairing #40
  11. Korvac, I have to take my hat off to you on this pick-up, a stunning book, from a stunning pedigree
  12. Ok, did anyone see what this went for recently on Heritage... there are 6 of these in 9.6, and you can pick up a 9.4 for $350, or there abouts. So I was thinking it would be in the $600-700 range.... but oh-no sirree...... $1,314.50 (thumbs u
  13. Seriously, your room has it all, and then some!! I'm left asking for a shot of the ceiling sheild, so many great items around the room, and Cap's sheild overlooking the lot.... so very very cool!
  14. For me 161 stands out. Mike For me it's #136 Ironicly, easily the worst cover has to be #135
  15. A case of easier to say, what don't you have Fantastic collection and display/room (thumbs u ... love the nitrile gloves as well, but real men handle their slab's bear handed
  16. Green has had a hardon for a HG copy for a while now...well as long as he's been on the boards. It's been his grail book, and now he has a 9.4 Burnt-boy copy coming his way. Green, congrats!! (thumbs u
  17. I'll pay more than $6001 for a 9.6 copy. look out the wallet police will be down on your arse before you can say TTA#59! The thread will be littered with beater scan's of Bat's #1 like a plague .. run you fools, run!
  18. ... Bill, my long box's are the sanctuary of reader copies only... not top census books , well done
  19. Korvac, there's no question.... Mass copy... early SA Torch story... top grade. It's going to be a very long time that book resurfaces!! And once the Curator copies emerge and get slabbed, the rest of us might have a chance of catching up to your's and Doug's set
  20. Paging Steve Filosa... anyone know if he's about these days
  21. Korvac, I thought you might of snap that book up. Vince did the rounds offering it to the usual suspects, but I passed. The usual story of too many brands in the fire. It is a superb book, well done (thumbs u Funnily enough I was speaking with some old time collectors this weekend gone on the early torch issues. And apparently back in the day, everyone beleived this was the run, and the character that everyone expected to take off. Torch being an FF member, and with his stories with all the right artist's doing them. It was regarded as the best of the second tier titles around. And only a matter of time before it went big time. But as time has shown us, the early issues, 101-109 are great, and highly rewarding to collect, but are not regarded as great key's or essentail early Marvel books. They get somewhat overlooked from a collecting perspective othert than the ST completists. Probably hindered by the fact that #101 is expensive, and just generally difficult to locate in grade. And #110 somewhat overshadows things, with more copies around ( 2 copies PC in 9.6 ), and more available in the affordable 8.5 - 9.0 range.
  22. I used the imaging service one time...and thought the exact same thing... Well, it does make easy to see that wicked spine crease to the left of When in the word balloon... Nice spotting but ya about as obvious a tik's behind with those scans
