  1. Well it might be rare, but if the price is silly, then at least now I know it exists so I can keep on looking. There can't be a ton of collectors queueing up for it, not if those two copies of "It's Gametime", which are fifty years old and SERIOUSLY RARE, have remained unsold. It's very cool when someone on the boards can find a book that Ian is looking for. Don't worry, Ian. Jeff is one of the best guys on the boards. He won't screw you. It is very cool, and who thought it possible....but something about the book tells me it wasn't a big seller in its day But admittedly the chances of this thread and someone having a book not in the collection...it's like a minor lottery win! Incidentally, this thread is easily the most enjoyable thread going at the moment. Thanks Ian (thumbs u
  2. BLOODY HELL !!!!!! I swear to you, I was actually beginning to believe it didn't exist. Wanna part with it .....we're waiting JK
  3. Wow! Fantastic stories, and to think all down the road from me on Shaftsbury ave there. There's a lot of history stored up in the collection of those books, and the history of the books unto themselves. Very impressive from what ever angle you look at your collection Ian.
  4. There are no really really hard Silver Age books. Probably the hardest are Teen Beat and Teen Beam That bit of info is one of the hardest it seems for collectors early in their gathering stages to grasp and retain. Thanks often to dealers who over hype scarcity of silver age books. Especially the ones they happen to currently have, oddly enough. There is a small dealer who I used to deal with, no more, that was one of the worst in that regard. Well dealers aren't wrong when speaking of grade issues. There are still alot of issues incredibly difficult to get in grade, but Ian was never chasing HG copies. With the task before him, he would needed a few more 00's in the bank account, and probably 30 more years to complete.
  5. It takes two to tango, but things have been going off the charts lately. I think it all started last year when that #82 9.6 went for $1,200 or so... then guys got plain tetchy on the big books I sold my spare 9.6 #93 for a record price, Socal comics had another 9.6 that went for similar money, and things kept getting worse! TTA keys are hot property right now, but the #79 pricing does seem agressive. Great cover, but hulk and Herc have tangled plenty of times...why this book is top dollar is a little lost on me Since I began collecting TTA's over 2 and a half years ago, I have not seen a 9.6 79 for sale...it's a great cover IMHO...there has been a LOT of competition for 9.6's in the 59-101 range...just look around the web...hardly any 9.6's for sale (and the ones that are for sale are priced VERY aggressively. There were 2 pedigreed 82's in 9.6 that have sold..the one you are referring to is the one that you and I both bid on and lost out on Needless to say, we were both stunned at the final price The 2nd I picked up for around the price of the first (neither hit GPA as they were both on C-Link)...I guess it all comes down to supply and demand Thats it in a nutshell really. I know TTA's are slowly climbing out the 2nd tier bracket for respectability. The most obvious comparison is TOS issues. While TOS in the pre new format 39-58, the books are all big hitter's, and command big dollars with a lot of collectors chasing them. The TOS 59-99 doesn't compare to TTA. Firstly the census number's are so much larger for TOS issues in that part of the run, and only a few highlights/keys there. TTA 59, 60 are still diamond rare in HG, compared to TOS #59 which is stacked high in HG. And iconicly, the Hulk over Cap, and Iron man...ok I'm biased here. But I'd tip it towards the Hulk, plus 2-1 on the movies (thumbs u
  6. Ian, yes completely understood. It's your perogative, and business, and not that an important issue either. I know she is private and that remains so, joining with your reflection of this as well. Was there any other's that come close to the mark, I thought there was one or two other's who had made decent attempts over the years to accumulate every DC? And in an interesting way, no Marvel equivalents that I'm aware of I won't take that as a bad reflection on us MMM boys

  8. Yeaaah, selfishly holding onto your white mountain copies like that!
  9. Ian, how so, I know she's fairly quiet as comic collectors go, but what was her reaction to you, and your goal at that time? I'm more asking to get inside the mind of the 'grand comic collector'. There seems a few we've appointed to this title, and they always seem difficult to get to know from the general collectors ranks. Arguably, I think some people here had applied the same thinking to you here on the boards
  10. Thats true, the core runs are what it's ultimatelty measured on. The promo's while very interesting, and important in their own right are alway's going to be adjunctive to the main title runs. I have to say though, the promo's do sound pretty interesting, and keep you in 'the hunt' so to speak. Great work!! (thumbs u
  11. Ian, great to hear from you. I didn't realise you were keeping everything current either. After coming so far, and achieving so much, it would be the logical thing to do, glad to hear it. And any new 'discoveries' added recently?? Even with the monthlies it has to be a somewhat still an organic collection.
  12. Comic books, good friends, and killa back drop...what more could you ask for! Thats a prize winning photo in every respect
  13. Holy Jebus...killer book. Bill, I'll say it again, the book is razor sharp, and pre-hero never looked so good
  14. a real treasure chest!! Fantastic room/walls/all of the above (thumbs u (thumbs u
  15. Nick we all know Ian's 'unique disposition' on life is somewhat on the gratting side of things, but to paint him as the guilty person amonst so many wondefrul and open minded guys here... oops have to stop for a moment, it hurts from laughing, would be the hight of utter nievity. Guys would of relished pushing his rather sensitive buttons from the word go.
  16. Woh, thats a sharp as a copy as we're ever likely to see, very very nice! And now somewhat of an infamous book, you've got to pleased with the addition to the collection (thumbs u
  17. Where do you get the idea he doesn't really appreciate the books? Listen to his interview with Vincent Zurzolo. The guy loved his books and could talk at length and in great depth about DCs. I never heard that interview. It was just a feeling I got.If I had that collection I would be on sharing and talking about it a lot.I dont rember Ian ever posting on here since ive been posting. Dennis Thats because this board did what it's fantastic at... taking the royal out of people, and not much else. He took off long ago, as he could never get a half sensible thread going without some mess-for-brains doing their usual attention whore routine. MK, no jab at you here, though were part of the gathering of town fools who wlecomed Dave Anderson onto the boards, your innocent here. (thumbs u I've seen the collection of Ian's and it is impressive. And for those who've had a small inkling of his personality you will know, not a book was left off. I recall one of the particularly tricky one was a Dragonlance annual, #2. The guys knowledge was verging on encyclopedic. And yes there was the qudos for himself in acheiving what many have tried, and not succeeded in. He even knew who, and what books they were missing As usual here, it's a lot of people second guessing something they know little or nothing about.
  18. Now on the list (thumbs u For those who look to collect SA Hulk apperances, in the registry or not, your looking a verty select group of books. And by no means cheap even in average grades. Essentially Hulk apperances where substantive are 'key' books.
  19. Who knew... Avengers #58 the classic Vision issue, there's a Hulk 'flashback cameo' (thumbs u No mention of FF annual #1 anywhere, and the dozens of reprint issue's have been left off the list, for better or worse.
  20. Whats that tried and tested line....Hulk's heard hurts ... alrighty, off to the registry thread to update the request with Gemma. Many thanks guys (thumbs u
  21. How close are you to getting HG copies of every BA DC + Marvel book? That's what your goal appears to be, anyway Who's collecting every BA Marvel? Got to agree, particularly with early BA marvel, the highlights are few next what DC was putting out at the time. BA DC all the way!
  22. That was me Though for a W pages, Northland copy I thought it was a very reasonable price all things considered. Recently prices have taken a step up, and holding out for a 9.6 looks to be a very long wait... and will be decidely 3-4 times as pricey, at least! must be a stunning copy, can you post a pic ?? (thumbs u
