  1. Nice book. Another great Hulk-prototype!
  2. Good grief! Did EVERYONE have an Uncle Ben? I believe the uncle's last name was Dover...
  3. Pretty cool work. Your galleries are just outstanding. I grew up reading ROM & Micronauts -- along with Ka-Zar & Moon Knight, Night Force, etc.- some of the best stuff to come out of Marvel in the early 80s!
  4. Nice! This is one of the true Hulk-protoype stories. A lot of similarities between the Midnight Monster and our Dr. Banner's alter-ego.
  5. Nice books! Amazing Adventures has some of the greatest pre-hero stories. SSERPO is one of the best!
  6. Any mid-50s book with a CCA stamp is an atom age with silver rising! Great cover, by the way...Maybe a nice candidate for an Iron Man prototype designation?
  7. NICE! The INSECT MAN was always one of my favorite pre-hero bug stories.
  8. TTA #44 is one of my favorite early Marvel covers and the OML is just as great...it has Ant-Man's new partner and a cool monster!
  9. Thats a great cover! Its a shame that Bill Everett didnt come back to Marvel full-time after the implosion...he could have done some spectacular monster covers & stories
  10. The latest addition to my Suicide Squad gallery - Attack of the Giant Leeches. Wonderful work by Matt Lunsford!
  11. I don't know CGC either. What I do know is that's a nice book! (thumbs u But this is Earth Prime! Earth-3 is where Ultraman, Johnny Quick, Power Ring, Super Woman and Owl Man reside. Earth-3 Super Woman She is soooo BAD.
  12. Interesting point about the PSAs...if you read them individually, they are quaint little tips on how young people should behave. However, if you read some of the social commentary PSA consecutively, there is definitely a pattern of thought that leans a bit to the left. Here is a great list of all DC PSAs: http://www.dcindexes.com/psa/index.php On a positive note, if it was not for Schiff's lawsuit with Jack Kirby over some contractual obligations for the syndicated comic strip SKY MASTERS, Jack may not have left DC to join Marvel. Thats something to think about!
  13. The Atomic Knights were one of the most unique of the many non-superhero teams at DC. It’s one of the very few places where DC mentions the Cold War in the Silver Age. DC was not inclined to mention the Soviets or any of its satellites as antagonists in the SA DC Universe. Only in the Atomic Knight stories is this hinted at (#117) -- in issue #144, its discovered that a race of Mole People actually set off the atomic war and all the other countries retaliated thinking the other guy struck first -- making the Western countries just as "guilty" as the Soviets. It was an unwritten policy at DC not to show the Soviets or Communists in general as the antagonists of a story. One could speculate that some of the top editors at DC (Jack Schiff) were sympathizers with the left and chose not to show Communists in a bad light -- unlike Marvel, where there was never any question that the Commies were bad guys. This could be the reason why the Knights were never given their own title and why they were dropped from the book just prior to Schiff taking over Strange Adventures as the editor. Fun Fact: All the Communist villians of the Blackhawks disapeared from the series after they came over to DC from Quality. Who was the editor of the Hawks? Jack Schiff!
  14. Sorry, GCG is the grading company on Earth-3. I get confused sometimes when I am travelling thru parallel universes!
  15. Great book!! Is it still HGC? HGC...? sure why not? (no idea what that is ) Highest Graded Copy! Oh, why yes, yes it is... ... never had a reason to know that terminology until now Nice book -- one of my favorite pre-hero stories. I wonder why GCG does not designate this as a Sandman prototype. I would bet dollars to donuts that they had this guy in mind when they introduced the Sandman villian in ASM #4.
  16. Admittedly, some of Heck's later 70s & 80s work was nowhere near what it was in the 50s and early 60s. Its just a shame that his earlier work is lumped into this "hack" pigeon hole that was created by that Comics Journal article. Lets face it, Jack's later stuff was pretty bad as well -- and called out in the Comics Journal at the time. However, its just one of those things that Jack is today remembered for his larger body of work, while Heck is not.
  17. Thats a great cover! Are you sure about this being the first mention of Kal-El? I think this was introduced in the 1940s either in the Lothar Superman novel or in the newspaper strip. Any Jor-El cover is cool in my book!
  18. Another Kirby cover No Kirby cover, but some nice Jack inside (. that didnt sound right...)
  19. I believe is was Sci-Fi big mouth Harlan Ellison who dubbed Don Heck as the "worst comic book artist" in the pages of the Comics Journal. Ellison later recanted, but the damage was done. What a shame.
  20. Love it! (thumbs u Which figure do you identify with most? I'm not sure. But I could certainly identify with owning that book Cool cover! Is this a robot story, or is it (ahem) a guy in a robot suit?
  21. What I've gleaned from the boards over the years is that the "Make Offer" function is mostly for show. They rarely respond and when they do, the best they'll offer is free shipping and only if it's a big ticket item. Here's that Kid from Dodge City. It may not be an amazing HG copy, but it's a cool Atlas implosion book that I don't see often, plus I got it at lunch. Yeah thats what I did...the make offer.. ....figured that they would at least get back to me. Why would that even have that on there if they dont respond back? Its been a few days now...guess I am not getting a response either. The Kid from Dodge City comic is badass Bro! i have never seen or heard of that one! Not surprising - it only lasted 2 issues. Thanks! It has some of the best Don Heck art, IMO. Here is my copy that I picked up in the early "wild west" days of Ebay. I think I paid something like $5 for it.

  23. . It sounds like the writer lifted lines directly from some old issues of Stan Lee's MY FRIEND IRMA book from the 50s. Every word out of her mouth is a one-liner. I wouldnt be suprised if Stan recycled his own stutt! Pussycat, however, did have a more mod taste in attire!
  24. Nice one! (thumbs u My second favorite telephone pole cover!
