  1. Hey GT (GhostTown). Those are some fantastic Gil Kane covers. The early 70s saw some of Gil's best artwork. My favorites are the monster reprint covers. If you got more of those, I would love to see em! Bill
  2. WOW! What a fantastic cover. (thumbs u
  3. DC when a little crazy with some of those Lois-in-bondage covers. I wonder if there was some kind of inside joke where the editors could see how much they could get away with.
  4. Bro those are COOLLLLLLLLL!!!! I have not even seen some of those covers before. Congrats! Great run! Thanks! Droom is probably my favorite cover, and was the toughest to come by in decent shape. I stupidly passed up an affordable, presentable copy years ago at the LCS because of cover edge tanning. Or at least initially passed it up; after I changed my mind and went back it had sold. Anyways, the majority of others I came across since then were mostly butt-rags. "The Thing on Bald Mountain" is probably my favorite story. There's no gore, but it seems more like an early 50s or even pre-code Ditko story than your typical TTA monster romp. DROOM makes a great cover. Although I would have rather have seen DROOM crushing jets, I guess that would have been too much for the Comics Code of that era.
  5. Gator, will the world end in 2012 -- and if it does -- what should I do to prepare my collection for the end-days? Thank you.
  6. A good chunk of my "90s money" went to James for his wonderful HG pre-heros and 50s DC Sci-fi. A real nice guy! The rest went to Marnin (also a nice guy!)
  7. I bought my TTA 11 VF+ for $180 in 1994 from my old buddy James Haack. Is he still around?
  8. I think that's a valid point. My view is that the crappy economy is creating situations where people have no choice but to liquidate their collections. HG pre-heroes have always demanded a premium because of their supposes rarity -- but the recent auctions have shown that these birds may not have been as rare as it was initially assumed. Collectors are looking to make $ on their pre-heroes, but have unfortunately (for them) driven down the price with increased supply.
  9. Nice books. Since the prices have considerably softened on HG pre-heros, now is a good time to upgrade. I will be holding my own HG pre-heroes a little closer tonight...
  10. Yep! WTTB! Stunning cover, first time seeing it! Nice cover. It reminds me of an old Scooby-Doo episode! Is that Heath?
  11. I like the concept! Great idea for the shy little Marvel Girl to KO not only the rest of the X-Men, but the full Avengers as well.
  12. Great cover. Cover art by Ruben Moreira, per GCD. Moreira...
  13. Nice Dejah commission. That gal is really into nipple-wear!
  14. Beautiful book Bronty...but I'd be tempted to crack that baby out and slide that Marvel flap-chip over... Just keep shaking the case...it will eventually slide into place
  15. ...also drawn by Johnny Quest creator Doug Wildey!
  16. "The Magic of Mordoo" in JIM #75 is a little gem of a story.
  17. I started collecting pre-heros after reading the stories in the 70s reprint titles. In the 80s I would look for nice pre-hero copies in catalogs and at cons. Those issues were usually found in the boxes under the dealers tables -- usually mixed in with Archies and Classic Illustrated reprints. Most of the time, they were really beat up, but every once in a while, you would come across a nice gem. I believe it was in the early 90s after several artciles about "prototyes" began to appear in Comic Book Marketplace and CBG that these books became collectible. Then WHOOSH! -- the prices took off and everyone was looking for these books.
  18. Dont forget : The Totem (from ST #74 & #75) Gorilla Man (from TTA #28 & #30) Cyclops (TOS #10 & FF#9) - debatable, but I think its the same creature!
  19. ST #99 is a toughie. Here is the Mass. copy.
  20. THAT is a nice copy! One of my favorite Kirby covers - right up there with Strange Tales #97.
