  1. Wow! Nice books. When I saw those 2 books, I had to run to my archive to make sure my babies were still there...whew!~
  2. I have to admit, I dont flip thru my pre-heros too much these days. If I get "in the mood" to read a pre-hero fantasy yarn, I just pick up my Marvel Masterworks for TTA, and TOS or the Amazing Adventures/AAF omnibus editon. I know they started reprinting Atom Age Strange Tales and JIM a few years ago, but I dont know if they are ever going to get to the pre-hero stuff. Bill
  3. Strange Worlds #3 was always my favorite cover & cover story of the run!
  4. Wow, very cool! For a moment there, I thought this was a Solomon Kane piece.
  5. Here is my latest Suicide Squad commission from Mr Neil Volkes! I like to create a little back story for each of my Suicide Squad commissions, so here goes... This time, the Squad is driving back from a top secret late-night meeting at Cheyenne Mountain, when suddenly their radio goes all staticy (I think they were listening to Andy Williams)... Anyway, suddenly there is a bright flash of blinding white light! The Squad recovers their faculties just in time to see being Karin abducted by a sinister alien. I believe they were able to zero in on Karin because of her special ESP-er powers! This piece is actually inspired by an old Mark Merlin cover from House of Secrets and just about any episode from the TV series: PROJECT BLUE BOOK.
  6. Wow, those are some great books! I hope the stories are 1/2 as exciting as the covers. Bill
  7. Alan is pretty spot on...the cover marking are not consistent. Here are 3 different flavors of WMs, all with different markings: 1) the classic penned inked year on the cover: 2) date stamped on the splash: 3) no stamp (there may be a stamp on the splash...i will have to dig this one out):
  8. Now that we've beaten poor Grogg to death, pull out your FOOM!
  9. Here is the latest addition to my Suicide Squad gallery. The Squad is battling an ancient Hydra - cut off one head and two will take its place! Wonderful work by Ms. Joëlle Jones!
  10. All this Grogg talk is making my Groggy...
  11. Dont forget to drink Classic orange-flavored Grogg...
  12. I get that that is an older book, but if I had won that I would have posted it here too. Being from one of the big Atlas/Marvel pre-hero titles, and one of the longest running, it can be hard to know where the cutoff is (I sure don't). I like to see those types of books here, and looking back through this thread's history you see plenty of them. They fall through the crack between GA and SA for me. (I guess they are technically Atom Age?) Atlas books from this era have always felt like early SA to me, even though I know that technically they aren't. Now if it had been Mystic or Astonishing or one of those titles that never led to a hero book that is an easy call. But to me, wrong or right, JIM is a Marvel pre-hero book because it eventually gave rise to a hero. This may be a creative interpretation of the thread title and rules, but that is just how I have always seen it. I realize that many will probably disagree with me on this, and I am happy to be educated on the nuances of the ages and designations. I define a "pre-hero" as any book from the late 50s-early 60s that contains fantasy stories by Kirby, Ditko, and/or Heck. Titles that dont lead directly to a hero -Strange Worlds & World of Fantasy - are considered "pre-hero" based on their content. Titles like Jounrey Into Unknown Worlds or Strange Tales of the Unusual are not pre-hero, because they dont have any Kirby/Ditko/Heck stories. Now, I would also lump the "early-hero" books into the pre-hero classification as they do contain fantasy stories by K-D-H. For example, even though the Torch takes over Strange Tales, those books still contain some great (and overlooked) fantasy backup stories that would fit right into the early pre-hero era.
  13. WOW! Those Ohio copies are outstanding...any sci-fi around from the same time period?
  14. Nice classic Zeck! Mike Zeck is one of my favorite artists. I have been trying to get a Zeck commission for some time.
  15. That's a great cover. A BATTLESTAR GALACTICA #1 would have been a really cool cover recreation!
  16. Here is a masterfull piece by Matt Frank...GODZILLA vs the TRANSFORMERS! Who would NOT want to see this movie?
  17. Just click on edit from my previous post and use that format. Photobucket will generate that link when you select the image and hit the generate code option at the bottom of the screen. you can then copy & paste the IMG text into a post. Its jsut a matter of getting the hang of it! Nice book, by the way. BIll
  18. Is it the fantasy concept or the art?
  19. Many thanks! I have a few more Suicide Squad commissions in the works so stay tuned!
  20. Sweet Cardy cover there. Stunning book Greggy, that's just an unreal batch of books. Congrats. +1 Wow Hmm. First Silver Age Uncle Sam app?
  21. A new addition to my Suicide Squad collection - this time by New Frontier animation director Dave Bullock!
  22. ahem, getting back to war comics... Here is a recent pick up from Metro. I had been looking for this one in nice condition for quite a long time. As I do enjoy fantasy stories, I always thought that the Kanigher's Minute Commandos would have made a smashing back-up feature in SSWS while they were running the War that Time Forgot.
