  1. In all of his detailed market reports in CBM and elsewhere he’d always detail the increases above Guide for each record sale... down to the ‘4th’ decimal place. I’d tease him about it. It’s like you ask some one What time is it? And instead of 10:30, or 10:20, they’d tell you 10: 22: and 37.2 seconds.
  2. I loved and read every issue. Looked forward to it each month. And I want to echo the sentiments about Keith. One of the great dealers and a great guy to work with, and talk to. I’d say he was at least 1.24456% better than the other dealers. im sure many of you all get the joke!
  3. A million dollars for a comic? To me it had better be the top or second best copy. But, if I’m right it’s kinda depressing cause it means that this exciting ride in which comics have reached unheard of prices will have peaked for lack of interested buyers. To date you must have a very strong attachment to comics... AND. A loose million lying around. You combine both requirements and it’s a tiny pool. if only there were a series of top grossing movies or something to boost interest! Nah...
  4. yeah Ive been seeing that. apparently #85 has a pre 298 Venon image too.
  5. in this case, maybe edit a box to say " Its Chuck, so, you know...."
  6. just glancing on Ebay for Comics Journals and found some remarkable offerings. Steal of the Day? Only $400 each!
  7. I looked thru most of the auction and its 90% raw books in lower grades. Not very ComicConnect , based on recent auctions. Is there a reason?
  8. thanx. I have issues with some of Ditkos choices, like, do we need the guy in the window? In order to fit him in, looks like Spidey will crash into the building! And Kirbys viewpoint is looking upward which is more heroic, whereas In Ditko's we are looking downward at him. But side by side with same graphics and color palette its closer to a tossup to me.
  9. The 2 versions by Kirby and Ditko really can’t be compared fairly in color because were polored at different times and for different uses. Kirbys was treated seriously as it was to actually be published as the cover of a new comic. But ditkos, having been killed and only appeared years later as a fun filler page in an annual just got colored as such, ending up brighter and less serious. Years ago I imagined what Ditkos cover might have looked like if given the same feel as Kirbys did.
  10. marvel trading cards are coming back! Does the 25 year rule still apply? It will be interesting to what extent these become collectible again. Which cards will be valuable given the huge supply printed once the cards took off with the first Fleer Ultra XMen.
  11. I seem to recall that the Guide stated that they were for raw prices around 15 years ago when criticism started that they were out of touch with the new CGC market. Right about when they changed NM down to NM- for the top grade.. they made it so 9.4 and above (which was still pretty rare back then) were a “different animal of the CGC slab variety..
  12. My overall question is along these lines: if a books sells lately at say 1200 on GPA, or lets say 1200 is a fair price based on rolling GPA (not latest one off high priced outlier) what price do buyers expect that book to be listed for here to sell quickly (eliminating the fishing expeditions hoping for a sucker). and as a followup, how much of a discount do buyers PM ask for off whatever the list price is? At the end of the day, do sellers here net the same 90% as they would after giving up 10% as on other venues? And do sellers here on the boards charge a quoted shipping/handling to the buyer? Ive always been curious where the boards really fit in as a seller friendly venue to sell...
  13. If someone sells their books on Comiclink, or My comic shop ets or consigns them for 10% fees, how does that compare will selling on the boards? I’ve always understood selling here to be more clubby, meaning lower prices to friends as opposed to at full retail or higher as you might price them in the wild. But over time, that friendly atmosphere apparently changed for many sellers right? So Today, 2020, is selling them here netting you more of less than 90% retail?
  14. Looks like poor coordination between the editor, pencillers and production department, as these upcs seem to have been placed err art was finished, and so as not to cover artwork... I thought the artists all worked on pre-designed boards given to them by the publisher. I guess not 100%
  15. It should eventually catch up! Action 2 was a Poor little puppy dog for a long time and suddenly took off. Tec 28s scarcity ought to kick in at some point.
  16. Id think it would sell for more.. one of the highest graded copies... but no bats on cover is a heavy load.
  17. which dealers can report non public sales? I guess the same dealers who report at all, right? Prob not Pedigree site, but wonder why the buyer bought it elsewhere then gave it to Doug to sell?
  18. that must be the book! Ive stopped looking at Dougs site past few years... So -- since GPA list a sale at 85K. now its ON SALE (flip) on Doug's vault. Any idea where the 85K sale took place?
  19. I see a GPA listing for a 9.2 Detective 66 selling for 85,000 in Oct 2019. Anyone remember this sale? where it happened? thanx in advance
  20. those are cool covers! Google translated, the title is "This Week's Adventures"
  21. I sent away for and had both of them. But my Argosy didn't survive nearly as nice as your copy!
  22. well, Im new to Baker and yes, I forgot he was African American while typing that... BUT - - at this point seeing the panel taken directly from the sameGreek magazine, he clearly was using images from it... Maybe he lived in or near to Times Square because there were always a few magazine shops that specialized in magazines and newspapers from all over the world, catering to international businesses as well the polyglot NYC melting pot of immigrant cultures.. not so much in all the other newsstands around the city though which carried local papers and national magazines.
  23. like I said, I thought so too in the beginning. but... Maybe I don't know much about Baker? was he Greek? why would an obscure greek magazine be in his morgue of images? Seems like a stretch. As I stated, no doubt he used photos as do all artists... but theres nothing brilliantly complete or unique about that girl and bkgnd that a talent like Baker needed to rely on. Bob Kane maybe!
