I'm in great company... (2007) (worship)

  2. Some Western Penn, John Byrne, "Black Goliath becomes Giant-Man" goodness...

I originally missed out on the original sale of this copy. Targeted the book for some time, then won it in another auction when it went up for sale again.

The thrill of the hunt. :busy:

Nice. Are you collecting a MTIO run, or do you just like pedigrees?

I wanted this because this was the issue that Foster dropped the Black Goliath name and costume and became Giant Man. :insane:

John Byrne art and it being a Western Penn copy helps too ;)

  4. I hope this is as solid as the last two.

I really enjoyed the last two. I know this will rub some people the wrong way, but I like the rebooted Star Trek films better than the originals.

    There I said it.

    I agree with you.

    :o

Joking...I never followed the any of the TV series. Outside of a few episodes here and there and the first 2 movies, I basically only knew who the main characters were for the most part. So when I saw the first new movie with Zoe, Chris Pine and Zach Q... I didnt really have anything invested.

Loved them and thought they were much better than anything else Ive seen from the ST mythos.

  5. Posted this exact book on my wantlist not too long ago hoping a boardie had this Western Penn copy. I stumbled upon it in the latest ComicConnect auction by accident. So I figured to steal it for nothing and no one else even notices this book.

Paid more than I expected (wanted) but I would've kicked myself if I missed out on it because I didnt want to go $20 or $30 over my budget. Not sure when it would have ever resurfaced again.

John Byrne goodness and Black Goliath becomes the new Giant-Man in this ish. Ultra HG doesn't hurt either.

  6. Having trouble locating a HG Rawhide Kid #94. It would probably be considered early Bronze more than late Silver, but has this been historically tough to find raw? From a CGC standpoint, all I see is 2 on the census (9.4s) and 1 sale since GPA (2006)...

I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.

  7.

I dont think anything specific...just speculation that he will be the next guy to pop up in a movie or tv series.

Ive been looking for 9.8 for years now for my personal collection. I have no love for all this rampant speculation/hoarding/flipping.

  8. This is a bit surprising. Perfectly wrapped copy, yea, I would understand. A very stout price for this wrap.

Hey, I've been hyping Power-man 24 as an "undiscovered gem" for a while now.

And WTF is all this "Origin of XXX" BS? It's the first appearance of Black Goliath, no question, yet CGC seems to want to give "Origin" to any older books with pre-existing hero (or even normal) characters.

With Modern ones, it's always "First Appearance of XXX" (to let comic shops/member firms hype the readily-available books) like the idiotic "First Appearance of Winter Soldier" (ummmm, Bucky's been around for decades). doh!

I knew this was coming.... :roflmao:

Ive been trying to get this book for awhile now for the same reason. Even trying to get JC to sell me his, to no avail. This is big guy's first app...clear cut. Yeah, he was Bill Foster was around since early SA Avengers, but he had no powers or anything prior. I guess I missed out on my shot if this ugly copy went for all those $$.

    :eyeroll:

  9. This is also entering into the silly Christmas bidding season. Best time of the year to list books as buyers are flush with Xmas gift cash and willing to overpay significantly on books.

It's also the time of year that people are buying gifts and don't have extra cash. Net gain.

Precisely why I backed off the Jungle Action #5 9.8 i was looking at. I really considered actually bidding due to some Fantasy Football $ coming in shortly. But extra $ or not, that was a ridiculous hammer price.

    :insane:

But even if I were considering it, I dont have the cash on hand at the moment, due to holiday shopping and wasnt too sure if the seller was willing to wait.

  10. this underrated early John Stewart is tough in hg. :busy:

    black cover and 100 pages...

I just bought a super hi-grade raw copy of that book. I got it as a part of a grab bag for next to nothing. At first glance, I graded it as a 9.2/9.4 with W pages. Man, was I stoked.

My heart sank when I flipped through the book and two coupons were clipped out :censored:

    doh!
