"Teen Titans A Celebration of 50 Years" is now out. Not surprisingly, it starts with the very first Teen Titans story: Brave and the Bold #54.
Interestingly, it does not even include B&B 60 in the collection.
So now we know DC's position.
Collects: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD #54; SHOWCASE #59; TEEN TITANS (VOL. 1) #25, 50; TEEN TITANS: YEAR ONE #5; THE NEW TEEN TITANS #6, 38, 83; TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS ANNUAL #3; TEEN TITANS (VOL. 2) #5; YOUNG JUSTICE #7; TEEN TITANS (VOL. 3) #5, 39; TEEN TITANS (VOL. 4) #1; TINY TITANS #4; TEEN TITANS GO! #5.
Not a Teen Titans guru...but those don't sound like key or important books. Maybe a Titans fan can correct me. No Teen Titans (Vol. 1) #1, Brave & Bold #60, or DC Presents #26. Hell, Id throw in the bronze age Uncanny X-Men/New Teen Titans crossover before I throw in some of the books I see listed in their "celebration of 50 years" book.
Sounds more like a book that shows how the group has changed over the last 50 years since the first team-up.

I cannot believe some of the ridiculous prices people are paying for these types of books.
-
I think DeFalco filled in admirably, and would have done a great job concluding the identity reveal of Hobgoblin. He would have done a nice misdirection with the Leeds/Kingsley, instead of Stern's original Rod/Dan Kingsley misdirection.
It was Owlsey that screwed it up. So anti-climatic with the Spidey vs Wolverine one shot.

yup...Platinum Comix

Thank goodness I picked up mine a couple of months ago. Never found a 9.8 but I settle for my "measly" 9.6.
-
Yeah looks like the early Power Man and Iron Fist books or at least the "1sts"...
#50 (first official team-up), which Im sure there are plenty of copies out there in 9.8, is selling 50% more than usual.
http://m.ebay.com/itm/321571681791?nav=WATCHING_ENDED
and the #54 (first Heroes for Hire), which doesnt sell often in 9.8 just went for $200+.

Yeah youre right...I guess reading the title and then reading his post, my first impression was that he was implying that PPSSM 43 should be considered the 1st Hobby. But re-reading it (and your post), I now see his point that it actually has never been a relevant book as the examples I brought up.
And yes...they were great stories and kept me glued to ASMs to find out the real identity of Hobgoblin.

Still doesn't alter the fact that the first app of the Hobgoblin is ASM 238

...DC states within BB 60 the team originated only after the events of BB 54. My position is this:
BB 54:1st Aqualad, Kid Flash, Robin team-up. Origin of Teen Titans.
BB 60:1st Donna Troy as Wonder Girl; 1st Teen Titans

Can we end this argument now? Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash team-up in BB54. DC realizes this is a hit, add Wonder Girl and call them the Teen Titans (hence BB60).
BB54 1st team of Robin, Aqualad, and Kid Flash. Prelude to the Teen Titans.
BB60 1st Teen Titans.
Both important. You like TT? Get both...and TT1 to boot.

Guys, it doesn't matter what DC says or what footnotes they've written or what stories they include in which archives.
All of those things can change over time.
What can not change is when we first saw a group of teenage superheroes called "The Teen Titans." Prior to the publication of B&B 60, if I asked you whether there was a group of teenage superheroes called "The Teen Titans," you would've said no. You might very helpfully point me to B&B 54, but only after the publication of B&B 60 could you have said, "Yeah, of course there's a group of teenage superheroes called 'The Teen Titans,' they are both groovy and mod."
What anyone writes after the fact can't change that.
Common sense. Plain and simple.

Will you agree with me that whatever position DC takes in its 50th Anniversary compilation is the final word?
Nope.
-
The first reprinting of the story, the Official Teen Titans Index, the Silver Age Teen Titans Archive, the Teen Titans Showcase, and we're all waiting on the new 50th Anniversary (1964-2014) book (note BB 60 was 1965). Are you not reading the above posts?
I mean, what could be clearer than that DC has picked 2014 as the 50th Anniversary of the Teen Titans (being honored with graphic novel and new 50th anniversary compilation)? 1964-2014. Get it?
I don't think that including an important origin issue like BB54 in collected Teen Titans stories necessarily means that it has to be the first appearance.
Marvel Masterworks Defenders, Vol. 1 collects Sub-Mariner #34-35, and Marvel Feature #1-3, The Defenders #1-6.
Essential Defenders Vol. 1 collects Doctor Strange #183, Sub-Mariner #22, 34-35, The Incredible Hulk #126, Marvel Feature #1-3, The Defenders #1-14, and The Avengers #115-118.
First of appearance of the formal team is Marvel Feature #1 but in the volume 1 collections of Defenders stories, stories that lead to their formation and their team-up prior is included.

BS...was the specific super-hero name of "Ant-Man" mentioned at all in Tales to Astonish #27?
I personally don't think of TTA 27 as "the superhero Ant-Man." Thats TTA 35. I think Lee has been documented as saying that he was just writing a story about a guy who shrunk down to the size of an ant and had insects chasing him. Again both books are important. Im not saying one over the other.
Some people are grasping at straws trying to play up their copies of B&B #60. I'm not buying it...I don't own a copy. I don't think I will own one or even have an interest in owning one. I would much prefer a Teen Titans #26 But that's just my collecting taste.
-
Of course, at the end of B&B 54, after the adventure is concluded, it states: "Once again, a startling new team of DC heroes has triumphed!"
What was the name of this "startling new team of DC heroes" at the end of B&B #54? That's a big omission and a huge part of the argument.
Subby, Hulk and Surfer teamed-up before MP #1 and they were known as the "Titans Three." Unofficially.

Hopefully you didnt pay through the nose for this... is this book shooting up in $$? I havent checked recently, I just heard rumblings and noticed everyone unloading anything Howard the Duck related.
-
Very nice book. You must have picked this up from Barton. I'd recognize his scans anywhere.
-
another early Blade pickup...his first outside of Tomb of Dracula.

Just got this in today, after I tried (and failed) to turn up the right copy at the right price during the Baltimore con last month...
Love to hear stories of when people miss out on something only to get a sweet copy thereafter. (thumbs u

My - DC is right. #54 is a team-up, not a team. The team isn't founded until #60.
It's the same as Sub-Mariner #34-35. Yes, it has Hulk, Sub-Mariner and Silver Surfer teaming up. But they aren't the Defenders until Marvel Feature #1, when they gain both Dr. Strange and the name "Defenders." The Teen Titans aren't the Teen Titans until #60, when they gain the team name and are joined by fellow founder Wonder Girl.
There's no confusion over the first Defenders; the Sub-Mariner issues are seen as a prototype. The same should be true for B&B #54 and #60.
Isnt there a simliar case with the original Defenders? They teamed-up in each others titles (Sub-Mariner, Incredible Hulk and Doctor Strange) in a crossover event before subsequently appearing as the Defenders officially in Marvel Feature #1?I think Sub-Mariner #34 is even labeled "prelude to 1st Defenders" or something of the sort.
Should have read all the posts...

I dont know any of those members but this thread has some sweeeet JAs! Wow.

Finally got my hands on this baby. Im not a huge fan of miswraps, but white spine on white cover didnt bother me as much as it normally would if it was a colored cover. Also, the fresh white pages and near flawless front/back cover helped to make up for it.
