People didn't like Doctor Strange's director??

I thought the writing and direction on that film was remarkable - it was better than any Dr. Strange film had a right to be.

I also love that one the writers was a former AICN guy. Harry Knowles must have been seething at his success.

Re-watch anytime Im scrolling through channels and see it on. Every. Time.

Especially that part in Captain Marvel where Fury purposely swerves his car into the bus so the Skrull in the passenger seat gets taken out. Big wuss move.

Im glad you pulled one scene from 2hr+ movie, but it wasnt a knock.  As I said, he was new to this whole "alien invasion" thing and was no where near the "tough guy", grizzled Head of SHIELD Fury you see in every other MCU movie.  Not sure why youre so defensive.

What was nailed was point two of the four point memo of "How to properly hate Captain Marvel" handed out to the legion of haters last year. "Attack Brie Larson's acting."

I, personally, dont have anything against Brie the actress/ Capt Marvel as a hero. Not a hater, I just thought the movie and Brie as CM was just *meh*.  Im a picky judge and probably only really, really like about 6-7 movies MCU at the most.  Ive stopped trying to predict which Marvel (and DC) movies I will / will not like because one thing Ive learned over the course of 10+ years is that I was wrong on a ton of them.  I had no clue (and Marvel as well) that Iron Man and RDJ would be what it turned out to be.  I thought the idea of a Guardian of the Galaxy movie (at the time I thought.. who??) was $#!+.  Now I just sit back with the popcorn and go for the ride. Sometimes the greatness comes from those you least expect.

I agree completely. Ant-man, enjoyed in the theater - the first one - second was ok... not really interested in rewatching them. Doctor Strange was a surprise as to how good it was - I WOULD watch it again, but not really going out of my way to do it - but Captain Marvel - loved it. Thought it was great. Seen it twice at the theater and once on dvd.

I enjoyed Doc Strange waaay more than I expected to as well. Surprisely for me, it was my personal favorite of those you named. Re-watched several times. I saw Capt Marvel, as well, in theaters with my daughter. Although I thought it was meh,  what made it was a great movie for me were the experiences I shared watching it with my oldest daughter who was 10 or 11 at the time and rewatching at home with her and my twin little girls...who also loved it. It was something they have never seen before on a big-budget, blockbuster Marvel movie... a female lead superheroine who can go toe-to-toe with big baddies just like Thor or Iron Man. To them she's the coolest thing since sliced bread.

That`s what they were saying a decade ago about the George Lucas Star Wars prequels.  :baiting:

Now Star Wars is back on track.

GI JOE is a huge ip. I think they will get it right this time.

^^ Huge IP agreed.  Legacy IPs such as these get 2nd, 3rd...10th chances.  RE: Turtles, He-Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, and as you mentioned...Star Wars.

Directed by GOTG James Dunn and credited 'with thanks to Marvel studios' at the end.

Basically "Superboy" is very bad. Except no credit is given to DC - Weird and wonderful copywrite issues here!

    Watched on Foxtel Premiere.

Great movie, scary and creepy - and gory!

    Highly recommended.

Got to be a sequel coming.

    8 / 10

+1...  Saw this last year a bit after it was released.  Wasnt disappointed with this "Superboy" Noir story.  Love the teaser at the end as well about the simliar...err, uh...folks like himself.  ;)

  7. Transformers is a worldwide brand again because of those movies. And as much mess as Bay gets, he made this thing into a monster again.

You made some great points JayT, but I agree AND disagree with you on this.

To say Transformers was not a worldwide brand is just not true. Whether it was dormant, dying, mishandled or not. But Michael Bay making it bigger, 100% agree. And I hated all the live-action movies except for the 1986 animated one. But their success, does go in hand with the fact that it was already a worldwide brand with an established fan base.

On a side note, "Hey Nick!!!"

    :hi:

  8. but Eisenberg is doing a rather poor imitation of Ledger's Joker. There are a few scenes that you will do a double take as if they were directly ripped off.

Im glad Im not the only one that felt this way. I havent read much recent books, but since when is Lex a Joker-esque lunatic?

    Very unlikable.

But I did enjoy the movie for the most part. It was rescued by the last 45 min. or so.

  9. And if this movie really is 100 minutes, NFW I'm going to spend $12 to see it.

and if the reviews keep piling in about how terrible it is...

    +1

Who makes 100 min. big budget movies anymore? Not worth the cost of trainfare/babysitting/snacks/admission as someone else mentioned prior. I take my statement back about giving this movie a shot.

    :D

  10. Repeat negativity. Why? Just to fill the day?

    This movie will suck.

    This movie will suck.

    This movie will suck.

Oh by the way, did I mention that this movie will suck?

    :baiting:

Honestly I don't have high expectations for this film. But that's only because the prior ones have stunk. But I'm willing to give it a shot. My philosophy is maybe a re-imagining is just maybe what this movie might have needed. Just because it doesn't follow lore, doesn't mean it can't be a good flick. I would have been less inclined to pay to watch this, if it was the same traditional FF movie, with just a new cast.

I've had high expectations for a lot of hero films that ended up disappointing me (ie Thor 2, Iron Man 2 & 3). But then there were a few films that I thought would be utter and ended up enjoying them (ie. Guardians of the Galaxy, Man of Steel).

Besides, can it be any worse? hm
