  1. I've actually been neglegent about posting my new acquisitions on this thread in the past few months, but with five gloriously uninterrupted days off for Christmas, I thought I'd catch up and do some scanning. First off, one of my favorite Schomburg airbrush covers: Seniorita Rio in a terrible predicament, courtesy of the Nazis...prettiest GA 8.5 I've seen in a while. Gack! A Crippen! How can you people collect these ugly things? 50+ year old painted war covers for under $100? All day and night baby.
  2. Truer words have never been spoken(or typed). (thumbs u I don't know, I've stayed pretty focused on my primary goal: HG Sub-Mariners. And I've broadened my horizons a bit with a nice assortment of Schomburg covers, ...and some misc Good Girl covers, and a couple of DCs, some Fiction House war covers, and... ...oh, who am I kidding, thanks to you guys, my collection is all over the place.
  3. well, as some know, after I finish the last few runs I have been working on, I am "done" with run building (I am still a completionist at heart, just don't have the resources)... Should we all chip in and start a fund to help you out?
  4. Just a note to all my GA Boardie friends....I'm going to be making available a number of books from my collection next weekend in a thread in the Marketplace. After doing a lot of buying recently, I've decided I'm getting spead out into too many different genres and titles. Plus, I hope to be pursuing a nice grail book in the next month or two, so the extra funds will help. Basically, if you like high grade GGA covers, mid grade Timelys, and other assorted interesting GA books, feel free to drop by the thread next weekend and see what I have. I haven't selected all the books for sale, but there will be at least $5k, and likely a bit more, worth of nice material available. I'm also easy about terms and time payments are never a problem. I'll update this thread with a link once I've posted. Thanks!
  5. Congratulations!!!! There really aren't a lot of books that drop my jaw...but this is certainly one of them. Congrats!
  6. Just posted a Sub-Mariner Comics # 18 in CGC 8.5 in the marketplace for an under market price. Sub-Mariner Comics 18 CGC 8.5 $1,250 Lloyd Jacquet file copy
  7. So it is 'OK' to break the rules once in a while and post OT in Comics General. Yep, apprarently it is. A few weeks ago, I posted the "OT: Which move can you watch over and over again" thread almost on a whim. It turned out to be a great thread, with more then 250+ posts with lots of great input and information sharing from all over. I actually rented a few of the movies posted and my wife and I enjoyed them. There was no venom in that thread, no flame wars. Who exactly does it hurt? Would the thread have been such a success in the Water Cooler section? Heck no. It may have gotten 50 posts tops, and that's because the majority of the opinions I hoped to solicit were from people in the Comics section of the Boards. Do I really want another Thing/TJ flame war errupting in a thread about movies? So, screw the rules, as long as people aren't spamming (which has happened on occasion), I don't see the harm. We're all adults (well, some of us) and I think we can navigate our way around those threads that don't interest us. Honestly, I don't look in 90%+ of the threads in Comics General, and I don't require rules and regulations and bylaws to do it for me. Besides, I remember not long after the OT ban went into effect in CG, Arch was moving "non-appropriate" threads left and right. I imagine he stopped after he realized how futile it was and how much time it consumed. To everyone who wants to do away with OT threads, has it occured to you that maybe the reason Comics General is one of the main gathering places for these boards is because it has the most diverse group of topics that interest people who are comic/sci-fi/movie/toy/artwork/pop culture collectors/fans? Do you really want to limit that? As for your $7 analogy Cal, you did what you had to, you did the right thing. But this is a message board, and I don't think posting OT threads is considered a criminal act by any state or federal law I am aware of.
  8. This has got to be the most inane thread I've read in the five years I've been here, and all the more reason to never venture out from the Golden Age and Marketplace sections. Personally, I think Borock should boot all of us. Save him and the Mods from having to deal with such juvenille nonsense.
  9. i would have been curcified.................................... oh wait that is kind of what happened.... For my part, I just didn't like your approach. I've had high dollar transactions with well-known Board members that have not turned out well, and I don't out them for the sake of privacy. I do everything possible to resolve the issue privately before escalating it to a public forum. Its just good etiquette. And even if I were to raise a stink, for the sake of my own credibility, I'd leave the venom and the language out of it. If the idea is to effect some "peer pressure" to hopefully get the situation or transaction remedied equitably, you'll find more support from other board members if you present it as neutrally as possible. And yes, I freely admit I came to Brent's defense because he has a ton of "good faith equity" both with myself, and the Board in general. Stick around for a few years, and you may garner the same.
  10. My point was simply that he seems to be making a mountain out of a molehill and then using terms like "f-ing books" and ranting up a storm doesn't help his cause. There is a difference between reporting a legitimate complaint and going overboard, the former being what this thread is supposed to accomplish and the latter being a problem that infects this board on Oh-So-Many levels. Apparently there was a goof. Brent apologized. The books are on their way. Case closed.
  11. Here are the rules: Established members with hundreds of positive transactions, years of board participation, and support from dozens of Forumites will be given every consideration (Brent) while whiny newbie wankers (like yourself) will get promptly *IGNORED*.
  12. No Kidding...the man slaps together runs of Golden Age like he was pulling them from longboxes of dollar books. I envy him.
  13. Love the Weird Thrillers 5 cover...I think I bid on the highest graded copy that was in one of this year's Heritage Signature auctions. As usual, my bid was shredded.
  14. And here I thought the folks in the GA section were so much more mature...silly me. Cool book BTW.
  15. If that's the case, you should probably know that some of Schomburg's work remains unidentified in the Overstreet price guide. Lots of books, both pre and post airbrush era, are still yet to be credited to him so you'll have to do some additional research to get a true "full set".
  16. learn the super-secret timely-geek cajun-style handshake, and it's yours. Is that two middle fingers, or one? Really, its for sale, or are you just toying with my emotions?
  17. That is a great looking Tec#1. Great purchase That's a great looking copy. Any restoration? Thanks George and Whet! Extensive resto but none of its on the cover (except for a small tear seal), almost all on the spine! Congrats;on a true beauty!!!! If I had a book like that I wouldn't be able to sleep for days just admiring the cover. As far as restoration is concerned I agree that having restoration on a book like this is prudent and worthwhile. Geez, why doesn't anyone sell off some nice high grade Submariners..... Or, maybe they do, and I just don't know the secret handshake to the Big Boys Club....
  18. Great books Mark! However, Comics Code by-law # 45932-B clearly states that BSDs (such as yourself) are not permitted to buy Subbys, leaving them instead for the rest of us lowly collectors of more limited means. You should go look that up somewhere....
  19. 8.5, one grader gave it a 9.0. But it was one of those books that got whacked for a couple of non-color breaking corner creases. I guarantee it could be pressed into a 9.2 or, who knows, maybe more. Ask me if I would ever do that. (apologies for using the "P" word in the GA section) Could you add me to the long list of folks who'd like a crack at that book when it comes time to sell?
  20. Take good care of them Gregster, they don't come around often. (thumbs u
  21. OK Tec27kid.......try this one! Both sold for $54,000 last year --- choose! All Star #1 or Superman #2, ...I'll take both! I think I'm sensing a pattern here....
