  1. Have you heard of credit cards? I'm looking forward to Bob's new site. I might not have as much money, as I was just able to work out a deal for four CGC 9.4 Strange Tales that I need (yes, that's NEED),.I've been bidding on them for over a year. Now if can just get a TOS #39 JIM #83 FF #5 in CGC 8.0 (Off-White pages or course), I'll be happy. At least for a day.
  2. You're not in need of any help, other than shedding a few unwanted (or underappreciated) books in your collection. Allow me to help. How's the Plasma TV?
  3. One of my favorite covers of all time. Back in the late seventies, when L.B. Cole was doing his cover recreations, that was one of the issues they showed in the annual guide. I would have loved for him to do that one (Logo and all), but at the age of 14, I didn't have $350 (heck lucky to have $35). SUPER!!!!
  4. Yes, crappy scanner (dude lay down some coin and get a real one). OK, enough about the scanner. GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!! The book looks extremely fresh. Nice pick-up.
  5. I true beauty. I honestly think that the Northland collection books might be nice pedigree (for early to mid Silver-Age books). The almost always have good quality of production and don't have usually any yellowing on the covers (at least the ones I have).
  6. I had a feeling it was that book as to me the price was very reasonable. Please post a scan when you get it (as there is no scan on Metro's site). If I didn't have the Bethlehem ungraded copy (which is probably a VF because of a back cover crease), I would have been all over your copy.
  7. I only have seven or eight in CGC 8.0 or higher and maybe two or three raw ones that should be at least an 8.0. I have a list of fifty I want, and if I can get all of them in the next decade, I will consider that a sucess.
  8. Remember that we are only talking CGC 8.0 (VF) books. Many GA/SA books don't really get any premium in the VF range (unless it's some type of key). Also, I'm only talking about books I have been able to obtain (which is not many). I can go months not seeing ONE new L.B. Cole book being sold anywhere. Metro has a few that have been there a while (and I'm pretty sure those are the copies that were bought off of eBay about a year ago). Plus, it depends on the title and how classic the cover is. I would be more than happy to pay 50% or more of guide for many issues in CGC 8.0 (but there not available).
  9. In general it seems to be about 20-30% above guide. But of course if the book is from a pedigree collection it's probably closer to 50% just for an 8.0. Obviously, the higher the grade the higher the premium. The Thrilling Crime Cases was at 3X the 9.0 price (and didn't meet reserve).
  10. Metro's got an 8.5 for $2,900 and it's been there a LOOOONG TIME.
  11. I've added over 70 High Grade (CGC 9.4 or better) Silver-Age Marvels to my collection in the past six months. Basically, that keeps me going (and takes most of my money away).
  12. I was actually hoping he would email me (and then see what we could work out). I probably wouldn't have bid that high, but I know the underbidder very well (we have traded /sold L.B. Cole to each other for a decade).
  13. No offense taken. But I've tried to collected them in the FN range and didn't get any thrill from buying / owning them. I love the covers, but if the cover is not in nice shape, it ruins it for me. That's why I collect HG books. Regarding Star books in CGC 8.0, I'm happy if I can get 1 every three to four months.
  14. It's a B*[#@$%!!!] being a high grade (CGC 8.0 or higher) L.B. Cole collector. There are probably 10 Star books on my want list that don't have even one copy certified 8.0 or higher. The only reason I didn't bid higher (and $1K seemed high to me) was that there are actually two 9.0's and one 8.0 in the census. I would be more than happy with the 8.0 copy (assuming it has nice eye appeal which the 9.0 really didn't), for half the price.
  15. Would you mind sharing how much you paid for it? I was high bidder on a CGC 9.0 copy of that book on eBay, but didn't make reserve (and my bid was over $1K).
  16. Good job. Keep this on the first page. Still gotta get me a Green River book.
  17. Book might never be opened again in our lifetime. Still, almost wish that CGC (and the collecting community) wasn't so sensitive to "CONSERVATION" (i.e. not restoration) and allow a great book like that to get NEW staples.
  18. I'm only surviving because I can look at the other 100 or so pedigree books that I have. Actually, I might have lied as I did buy two pedigree books in late November ,but it seems like a really looooong time.
  19. Very good stuff. Keep them coming (I haven't bought a new pedigree book in a month ).
  20. Plus, assume that you pre-grade at 9.0. You know at 9.0, you will make money on a book. But you grade 10-20 books maybe 8.0 or 8.5 but maybe on a good day, you get a 9.0. Does it make sense to take a shot on these books? Probably. Obviously, if you are sending in clear losers (book have a inch corner crease), then it's a waste of money. But if you are hoping a few of your borderline books get through, why not take the chance.
  21. Good price and because it's a white cover the crease at the top right really doesn't look bad at all. Probably can press it out (oh, sorry).
