  1. I think it's a good time to sell. I sold off 2 years ago. Still have tens of thousands of books but nothing of high value. I keep buying but instant sell. Not keeping anything long-term.
  2. I would go back in time and check it for restoration before I sent it to be graded. If that isn't a option as stated above you have a lot of questions to answer. Book for you or resell? If you then do you even care? I love restored books. Even better if a page is missing or a non witnessed signature. If you hate restored then learn how to remove it or find someone who does. If resell how easy is it to detect? How easy to remove? You will get good money if it is done well or easy to remove. I find most people value their time less or have lower profit expectations than I do so not worth it to remove it unless it is easy. People are always looking for a opportunity to make money. Either way a restoration expert should know exactly what can be done with the book by the excellent detailed pics I am sure you took of the book for sending it to cgc.
  3. If only cgc would put out a book with their grading standards. I don't like date marks so I remove them if possible on books of value. But it was a common practice ( not so much in bronze age ) and I feel like I have seen 9.8s with them. Definitely seen other grades that the date had zero effect on the grade.
  4. Interesting. Staples can rust without paper damage. Metal doesn't like moisture. Paper used to be living so it can handle and even use some humidity. Rust has nothing to do with qualified label. Will just effect the universal grade. Personally I would just find another better copy and not worry about it. Not worth replacing staples unless it's a 5 figure book. Not worth grading a book with rusted staples and spine tic.
  5. Going to take even longer now. They just lost the business of someone who submitted 6 books. Probably had to lay off 3 graders. Hope they don't go out of business because of this.
  6. If you get them back in less than a year you should be celebrating instead of complaining. As long as people are willing to send them money they will keep on taking it. It's not easy to find graders at what they are willing to pay. I would look into training new graders. Only have so much space though so would you want to expand your business right now? Comics weren't effected in 2008 so maybe they should. But why? People are willing to wait 2 years so no need to do anything.
  7. I keep mine in whatever they came in or if they came in nothing or yellow bag I take a cheaper book that is in a nice bag and put the more expensive book in that bag. I don't want to invest the time in bagging books. Not crazy about spending money on bags. If I had nothing better to do and ther was nothing to invest in or buy everything would be in mylar. Would never want to do it again and books look so much better. Storage is the big thing. Steady temps and humidity. If they make or if not they should make a thick mylar like backing board. I have seen books I can tell you what's on the back cover by looking at the backboard. Slabs are nice. If book survives the shipping and grading process it seems pretty safe in the slab.
  8. First class used to have tracking. I wouldn't trust local post. I would buy shipping online after I made sure tracking is included. If not make buyer pay more money for the priority. I would make them pay for insurance as well if needed. I only ship usa. Plenty of buyers here and more reliable post and no forms.
  9. Asking spare a grade is fine. Better yet visit it every day, write down your grade and see how you do compared to the best graders. Once you learn how to grade you can grade your own books and put grade and value so your family will know. Personally I slab ones that will grade better than most people would think. Sell raw the ones that look better than they would actually grade. Lots of people aren't capable of doing this. But if your family is able to take good photos then any raw book will get fmv 99 percent of the time. Also must be able to ship it safely. Slabbing is definitely easier though for most.
  10. They say cast is king. People who don't have any cast are more likely to have fomo so I will take their credit and sell the book for more money. If they bulk at that I will wait for another desperate credit user or cast. Unless it's a awful book and it might be another year before I find a buyer for it.
  11. I only take cash or barter. Friends and family was a option though. I either sell one of a kind items or have the lowest price. Not everyone will pay non paypal but someone will. Lots of apps available so if you are the only buying option they will use whatever you demand. I mostly sell in person or consignment. I only buy to resell so knowledgeable board members asking fmv aren't a option. If I was buying here I am sure it's mostly reputable sellers who would happily take a check or bank transfer. If I have been buying from them for a decade with no issues we should be good. If I wanted to deal with a new person they could send me the book first or set up a escrow. They would probably sell to a Paypal buyer but I I was the only interested buyer and they needed money they will do whatever. Again lots of non paypal apps.
  12. For anyone closing Paypal account don't forget they own these brands as well. Braintree, Venmo, Xoom, Zettle, Hyperwallet, Honey, Happy Returns by PayPal, Chargehound, Paidy and Simility
  13. Cash, checks, gold, crypto, whatever you consider having value. Ebay used to be parent company or something of paypal. I would cancel them as well if I didn't get top dollar on many comics there.
  14. Not me. I actually did use them. 0 percent interest and pay it off 6 months or year later with inflated money was useful. Soon as I have some cash freed up I am paying off my balance and closing my account. I don't believe their opps mistake story.
  15. I won't be buying any of these books so doesn't matter to me. I don't put much value into cgc page quality either. But if cgc can't detect it most people will never know unless they crack slabs and know how to detect this themselves. If they can detect it then i would want it noted on the label. I would like any unseen defect or appearance benefiting procedure mentioned.
  16. I'm not buying any comics for investment. If there was nothing else I could do to provide and protect my family and I had to buy one of these books I would buy whatever one I seen the best deal on first. Carnage came and went. Gambit is a strong bet to be seen. Rather have the movie spec book. Would buy a dozen of them if that is what I kept finding deals on before I paid full pop for the others. Rather buy another 266 vs a 14. Whatever book you think will see a movie bump the soonest. It's only money and a nothing amount so buy whatever one that will provide the most enjoyment.
  17. I don't invest in much long term. Buy low sell high. When I buy something it can't go much lower. I am a fan of bad news for financial purpose. Look into rare elements and precious metals. I don't know when they are going to go up but they will for sure and will be a nice scote and some can't go much or any lower. The mining cost and future need prevent it. When i need to put money somewhere and don't have more appealing options that's my go to.
  18. Stocks are always good. Something is always about to move one way or another. Crypto has been good for me. I treat it as a stock. I have no interest in it long term. Kids got me into NFT. So far they know what they are doing, will see how long it lasts. Again something I don't want long term. Real estate is high because demand is high. With so many new people they ar going to need somewhere to stay. My favorite for years is venture capital. Let smart creative minds make wealth for you.
  19. Maybe you should sell all your stock and buy af 15s?
  20. OP never returned but any future investors would be best to find something else. Comics used to be a good investment. Flipping is still a solid option. But investing there are plenty of better options. For a smart buyer comics are a hobby that makes you a profit. If you want max profit or get rich look elsewhere.
  21. Off your photos if buying I would feel certain the front cover wasn't trimmed. Not as certain of the back because it's the back and would check it in person but not seeing for sure trim or anything but can't rule it out for certain. Pages are harder via pictures unless great photos and trimmed more recently. But a good eye could spot any color difference where cut. Good touch may feel it. It's not common to trim pages without trimming the cover. You should be good. Trims are usually so bad any non amateur can spot them or so micro and good you nor grading company will be able to tell.
  22. Buy the label and not the book is my motto. (When selling) Seller should have pulled a heritage. Take good photos that smart sellers can see defect and just wait for that right buyer to come along.
  23. Cover should move. Staples tore paper and aren't snug. I can't tell anything from pics but if the cover moving is your only clue I wouldn't worry.
  24. If you plan on selling them in the next 40 years get them reslab. I am sick of buying them. Another member was offered to have them reslab free if charge. As should be. These defects are common though. 1 out of every 4 slab I buy has them.
