  1. I love the McGuire Justice League run. How much did this one sell for?
  2. This doesn’t take away anything from the dealer but the other dealers didn’t see what he saw because it wasn’t there. He created it. It really is more than predicting the future as he had a large hand in the outcome. He cornered the market. Is it fair to say that had he not purchased alll of this artwork from the first 300 some issues that the prices wouldn’t be so high today? Had Albert Moy gone after and kept every Batman page from the first 500 some issues would the same prices we see today for those pages exist?
  3. Having had so many I’m shocked that he didn’t keep a few. Still I don’t think it would be fair to say that he isn’t a fan of the covers. He must consider covers overpriced compared with splashes which I’ve heard others also say as well.
  4. Lots of Conan love going around these parts. I”d take the Vacation movie poster art over any one of them.
  5. You would have to think if the Captain America with shield image would pop up that it would turn a few heads.
  6. I wonder how the most significant "eff it" Liefeld pieces would do at auction. Would a really poorly drawn piece such as the Captain America with shield piece break records or fall flat?
  7. This might be the first time in history that the phrase "REAL DORITOS" has been used before. Talk about your oxymoron. I'll agree with you on this point. If what he is bringing isn't even as good as Doritos then then you guys DO need better snacks.
  8. How do these differ from the typical GN? Do they have artist sketches inside?
  9. Didn't know about this. That is an even better deal. It says it comes with Fandor. How does Fandor compare with the other online streaming services? "Members of Costco are being offered a discounted subscription to MoviePass bundled with a subscription to Fandor. The price for the bundle is $89.99 for one year. After the year, the subscription will convert to MoviePass’ and Fandor’s regular monthly package. This special package is only available for new MoviePass members. "
  10. They just recently dropped the price of the moviepass card from $50 to $10 a month. You can see 1 movie per day for $10 a month. Something to look into if you like movies and are on a tight budget.
  11. It depends on why you collect and what you enjoy. Personally, I think a lot of the newer artwork from hot artists is overpriced. I'd rather have a vintage piece from a book that meant something to me.
  12. You aren't alone. Every so often I'll hear some talk about exciting art and head over there to look. Then I'll just get frustrated and shut it down. Perhaps it is for the best. The other two auction houses keep me broke enough. We must be in the minority, the prices posted seem to indicate that buyers are able to find what they want just fine.
  13. The 20 page KULL ended at 31k. Was this a good buy for someone who plans to break it up?
  14. I'll start with a disclaimer that I'm no expert here and I don't own a single X-men page. Clicking on that first link to the DPS my first thought was Portacio / Williams. However, page 24 doesn't look like either one of them (Portacio/Williams) to me.
  15. I'll always remember Mike Zeck for his Gi joe covers.
  16. For it to be top 10 to top 20 on a list you would have to be more specific. Perhaps top 10-15 Web of Spider-Man covers? Or perhaps covers from that era if you haven't read or are not a fan of the 60's and 70's books. Spider-Man has so many wonderful covers and even top 10-15 of the 1980s books is a bold statement. Without seeing them all again, I can't say where it fall in the 80s books but it would be a fun exercise to lay them all out and see where it falls.
  17. Web 32 is a great cover. However, you could substitute the splash of 32 for the cover of 32. So if given that choice pick the cover of 294 and then track down that splash from Web 32 that Romitaman sold.
  18. You could argue that the splash page from that issue is better than the cover.
  19. I'll take part 5 and let the rest of you fight over 1,2,3,4 and 6.
  20. As a general rule of thumb Amazing trumps other Spidy titles but I don't see t in this case. If you can place a premium here at all on the title alone it will be small. This was a popular cross over series read by almost all Amazing readers.
  21. Couldn't imagine that it would get any less. Just about any cover that generates a buzz and raises the interest of the masses seems to get 30k these days. Not the cover that I'd pick from the series but I'm shocked it didn't sell for more as well. Perhaps potential bidders have reason to think that others from the set might follow and they are holding off?
  22. I can live with that but there are other people saying they would pass on this item at $250.00. As you say these items aren't always a this or that equation for buyers. Does a bigger Superman collector who already owns a mid grade example of Action 1 want another lower grade copy more than this? Honestly, I can't answer for him but I too could see him wanting both Action 1 comic and this. As for the museum it would depend on things we can not answer without asking them directly. You might get a different answers from the Smithsonian and Billy Ireland Cartoon Museum. Some museums are very concerned with condition and would pass or never display very low grade examples of the book. Perhaps said museum has a higher grade example of the book already and then the choice is an easy one. In at least some of these possible cases I would say that a museum would rather have this over a lower grade copy of the book.
  23. Cons: As comic art it is twice removed. Color art on a line art copy and not the color set used in production. So perhaps this could be called a color guide concept piece? Pros: Only verified surviving hand drawn art related to the cover of Action 1. If you presented this item in public it would generate a buzz with the general public greater than many pieces of comic art that will end up costing much more. See it as memorabilia instead of art if you must but you can't say that it isn't historically important, interesting or cool as hell. Nor can you say that if it was offered it to a museum that deals in this type of material that they would turn it away. It is a small part of the history of the single most important comic in the history of comics.
