  1. Corey that is a great book. I have wanted to collect that run. I wish I could start with this one. It is a pretty book. Plus it should be a classic cover, imo.
  2. Good lord, I hope no Nicolas Cage as CM They need to resurrect Tom Tyler.
  3. Can you post a picture? It doesn't have red tape down the spine does it? If so, maybe it is a Pop Holinger.
  4. What no love for Major Inapak making a strong push after Dr. Pepper/Snapple/Yoo-hoo bring back the Ovaltine-competitor, Inapak, chocolate mix for a retro-fit to their line of products. And you thought those warehouse finds were fodder. Oh and the Big Red Cheese will challenge his now DC super-powered JLAer for GA collectability dominance - Whiz soars again. Someone's gotta step out and make some bold predictions.
  5. I of course don't have any of the issues and don't have time to look through these but if you look at the DC Wiki Database it may give you a clue. Here is the link to issue #2 http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Action_Comics_Vol_1_2 Below is the type of synopsis you can get for each each story and this one is the first page of the Sealed City in issue #2 and I believe ran for 3 total chapters through issue #4. Of course it may not be helpful at all Good luck. Appearing in Tex Thomson: "The Sealed City (Part I)" Featured Characters: Tex Thomson Supporting Characters: Bob Daley (First appearance) Villains: The One-Eyed Gorrah (First appearance) Other Characters: Daroka (First appearance) Locations: Earth-Two The Sealed City Synopsis for Tex Thomson: "The Sealed City (Part I)" Tex and his new friend Bob Daley outfit an expedition to find a city sealed by a volcanic eruption in the uncharted region of Yukatrasia. Scouting ahead of their camp, Tex and Bob find the mark of the lost city: a Maltese cross within a diamond. A knife slams into a nearby tree with a note attached with the same symbol. The note says to leave now or consequences may follow. Examining the mark on the mountainside, Bob touches the center of the symbol, unwittingly opening a cave door. The two adventurers travel into the cave, walking through an area filled with trees. All the while they are observed by a one-eyed man who calls his servant, Doroka, to greet the travelers. Doroka confronts Tex and Bob, but they cannot understand his language. The servant pulls a knife and Tex kicks it away. Their fight is stopped by a beamed message, which leads them into a home. They are greeted by the one-eyed man who calls himself the Gorrah. He leads them to their rooms and invites them to dinner. The pair seat themselves at the dinner table, while the Gorrah declares this will be an evening they will never forget.
  6. Quite a surf and turf combo - beautiful
  7. Thanks, Walter and again, I hope it was not bad form to post them as I in no way wanted to detract from your accomplishment. I liked the Everett covers and since I can't afford Subbie in most Timelys, this was a good avenue Your run is awesome and such high grade books - congrats again!
  8. Amazing books. Not only the grade but the selection is just awesome.
  9. Those are great - he is addictive, isn't he... Congrats! And love the PJs
  10. Welcome to the boards. Good luck with your venture - I hope all works out and it is good to have more Okie state members even though it doesn't sound like you a native OK. I was born in T-town and lived in a small town near Broken Arrow. Been in OKC since the mid 70s. Again, good luck.
  11. These are so fun and such a nice high grade run. This was one of my first sets to go after before the genre change with #16. Not wanting to horn in so my run in the spoiler and a somewhat less breath-taking set. The #13 was the last one I added and was the toughest for me to locate - now I have 4 copies (the two shown which I slabbed and two others that are raw). Congrats on such a nice uber-drooling run,Walter
  12. I am so sorry I missed OAFCON this year. I have going since the 70s and only missed a few. I had every intention of going and seeing all the usuals and more often than not buy something since it is a great venue for GA books. Last year, I picked up a nice book from Bud Plant. Unfortunately my health kept me down and I was unable to make the 30 minute trip south to Norman. So Cat, thanks for posting and sharing. I always love looking through your high-end books and love the way you have the covers copied in the binders. One year, several of us visited about some the Timelys you had and salivated - sorry for the drool on the binder And it always great to see Richard who brings a ton of great material. Eric Groves and his wife are wonderful and the usual throng gathers right when he sets up to see what rarities he has added. He is an attorney when not playing superhero vendor and I have bought several cool books from him. And as always hats off to Bart Bush whom I have known since the early 80s when I went to college at OU and would visit his shop multiple times a week. I still have the Mile High Cat-Man #13 that I bought from him and wished I could have afforded the entire run as he had them. Goodness for a crystal ball and of course more cash but a struggling college student can only afford so much. Bart has been the driver of the con and you gotta love his shirts
  13. I had forgotten about this. I would call and get the notes but it was only for books I had subbed. I assumed you could get others but never did. I do understand not wanting to do it over the phone due to the staff and time burden but charging to get access for a few electronically shared words on non-subbed books is not user friendly. lou_fine lays it out perfectly above.
  14. Wow - sorry to hear this, Sha. I cannot imagine anyone being more patient, cooperative, and just plain nice than you. It seems you went through extra efforts to be responsive and send the books by packing and traveling with them as soon as they were paid and if he posted since the last contact, that always raises my dander. I have never even heard of this forumite. I do hope he steps up and resolves this and realizes what his actions will do to his reputation and ability to participate in this community. Good luck and I hope all is well with the family and everything else.
  15. Wilhelm Uthe is always the first name I think of when I see a spurious listing in Germany. We had one thread where we tracked his aliases
  16. This is how I have always felt too. No reason to put folks off with the PP offset.
  17. Why always Germany? Uthe still must be active or he has trained some cronies.
  18. Goodness no I am not a HA employee and as I said I was in no way trying to defend HA, CGC, or any consignor. I have never consigned to HA. I am retired state employee and not even from Texas I was just curious as I said and evidently read too much into your post.
  19. I am not sure if I posted this before and I know it is not a cover but it is one of my splashes by Cole
  20. Being post-code I would assume would make it less desirable than a pre-code book in most cases. As for AJax, it was part of Farrell Publications which had several imprints including Ajax and Ajax-Farrell.
  21. Not trying to be critical with my question but are you saying HA was at fault for not suggesting the CGC grade did not meet your expectation of a 9.0 or that you did not agree with CGC's 9.0 grade when you received the book or that HA and CGC are in some clandestine partnership to sell overgraded slabs? Or something else? Was the book a consignment perhaps from a private party? Again just trying to understand and apologies for my apparent denseness and am not trying to defend HA, CGC, consignor, etc. - it just got curiosity piqued.
