Try putting something behind the book that is larger...for example, a backing board that is slightly larger than the comic on all sides. That should force the scanner to expand to the size of the backing board and it will get the whole comic.

I hope you didn't pay more than 2-cents for it.

 

I think it's more user-error, as the sides and bottom are fine, it's just the the top that's cropped. Try positioning your book lower and check your software settings.
