This Week Back From CGC 46 46

I actually got these back from CGC about 2-3 weeks ago but I've been stuck on jury duty and have been completely exhausted at the end of the day to post them up.

For the most part, these came back pretty much as I expected:  I thought they all had a good shot at 9.8 but wasn't going to be surprised if any of them came back 9.6 either.  The only head-scratcher about #1 is it honestly doesn't look that much different from the other two 9.8s.  If anything, I thought the #4 was going to be the one to get a 9.6.

The big surprise of course is the #2 with an 8.5.  The Grader Notes state: moderate staining to cover  I missed this as I was completely focused on the corners and edges.  However, in my defense, it is extremely hard to see unless you tilt the book in the light.  There appears to be some kind of faint tie-dyed type "stain" on the back cover (attempted pics in the spoiler), although I wonder if it's some kind of printing anomaly with the gloss on the cover stock.   Since the book is pretty much worthless in this grade I'll probably crack it out and see if there's any kind of bleed through to the inside back cover, and if not, see if it's something that can be gently wiped off.

Kingdom come  anybody knew that the old preacher character is based on the father of alex ross ?

I apologize if my comment about jury duty came off as negative, the subject matter and nature of this particular case is mentally/emotionally exhausting plus I was nominated the foreman so I have the added responsibility of herding cats.  But generally speaking I'm fine with doing jury duty.

 cool! I don't follow the books much, I do remember staying up late to watch Alex Ross appear on the Late Late show with Seth Meyers a couple of years back.

I want to say that he was mentioning this book or at least referenced it

No, no, it didn't come off that way at all, I didn't mean to make it sound that way either. I've never been picked, one of my parents did when I was a kid though, and I know how it can "keep you away and busy" is all

I actually discovered Alex's father, Clark, attended the same church I do here in northern Illinois. It was a rather bizarre situation. One day I noticed an elderly gentleman who looked strangely familiar sitting by himself in the pews near the tinted windows and, if you know the story of Kingdom Come, you know how surreal it was to see that in real life. I knew Alex lived in the area and figured it couldn't be a coincidence so I introduced myself to him afterwards and he confirmed he was Alex's father. We would catch up occasionally after church for a few years after that. I reminded him once that there was an action figure based on him (via his Kingdom Come character) and joked he was the only one at church who could make that claim. He got a kick out of that. I believe he passed away in the last year or so. Really nice gentleman with some incredible history.

What kind of case did you get? I have to report on the13th.

It's a criminal case.  I think (hopefully) we'll wrap up deliberations on Tuesday so until then I can't say too much more about the case specifics.

Meh, one of my Kingdom Come books had either a thin sliver of plastic or a pretty good scratch inside the back of the case. 
 

At this point I’m just grateful that none of the inner wells have a trap door that damages the book.

Nah, not worth the hassle and the increased risk of getting damaged in transit.

That is what I determined with a copy of SIKTH 1 cover A a few months ago that has a sliver of plastic in the bottom front of the holder.

I am hopeful that a 25 modern comic book submission that I hope to ship no later than October 2021 will come back without any issues.

Funny timing on this one, getting it back the same week that the Netflix series was announced! I’d hoped for a 9.6 but 9.4 is a fair cop. I’ve had this one for several years, paid about $360 for it. Can’t believe what they’re going for now. What kills me is that a few months ago I decided to start working on a CGC Grendel set, because at the time no one really cared outside of a small group. Was still looking for a Comico mini 1 & 3 in 9.6 - 9.8 at a price I wanted to pay, but I waited too long because now they’re asking crazy money. I had a soft looking #1 9.6 in my cart for months, couldn’t make myself pull the trigger at $900. Now it’s relisted at $1800. Jinkies!

Anyway, Grendel rules. Even if prices go up, I hope some of these flippers actually discover the wonderful weirdness of this series and become fans.

Man that sounds like a fair price! I was curious how long ago, or if you could be more exact?

I remember the boards going on about it around 2016 2017? True my budget has changed, but I could have sworn it was always above my means say $500+
