Preferred submitter bump? I believe the book was well deserving of this grade. I am very happy to own this book; it is a key GA Timely, and I am a huge Larson fan. As I'm sure you're aware of "Pedigree Man", Larsons were notorious for foxing and rusty staples.

Just playing devil's advocate here, "ACME." devil.gif I thought I presented both sides of the story pretty well. confused-smiley-013.gif

"Notorious" for foxing...yes....Rusty staples....yes on SOME copies, but hardly "notorious".....It is the whiteness of the pages that distinguishes any Larson copy from many other books...Jon

....oh and here is my "rusty staple" Larson copy of Red Raven (with mouse chews).....(someone help get this on directly)......jon

thanks Greg for helping a boob like me! 684453-redraven1.jpg

Jon;

Nice to see you back here again. Wish you could grace us with your expertise more often.

Since you are the acknowledged expert on the Larsons, could you let us know what the meaning of the numbers on the various titles are? For example, we have 112 for Red Raven, and a 90 on the Silver Streak. I have also seen other numbers showing up on various titles.

Would the number "90" be unique to the Silver Streak run of books as other numbers would be unique to other runs of books? If so, would you have list of these numbers handy which you could share with us? Would you happen to know what the number is for the Fox Wonderworld Comics run?

Thanks once again for all of your top-notch input on the boards. thumbsup2.gif

Okay here is the deal.....When the books were sold to the local drug store, Kruetz drug store, they had a couple of distributors....on real early Larsons you will see "P.N." which stands for "Publisher's News"....they always have a number after them....The number is a "call back" number....If they did not sell thru the retailer could get a credit and used the number on the paper work.....So indeed each title has its own number

In 1941 some Larson late issues one will see "ad" which is "American Distributors'....Some have no numbers....Any markings will be in the upper left quadrant of book....Remember one early buyer of Larsons 'erased' the name and number on several books....so look carefully....

I do not know of the number of Wonderworlds....some have no number which may indicate a different distributor....if you would like i can post some examples...jon

You wanna see a rough Larson? Check out my Silver Streak #1. Bone white pages, but it must've been on the top of a pile in that barn for all of those years, unfortunately. (Of course, that's also how I was able to get it cheap, so I guess I can't complain too much).

"Rough" or not, I love it! cloud9.gif

For example here is PN as appeared on books from 1936 and 1937 684523-funnypageslarson.jpg

Jon;

Nice copy of Funny Pages #8 from 1937. I noticed the number "71" on the cover. I guess these coded numbers must be unique since I have the same coded "71" on my Larson copy of Funny Pages #11.

Was hoping that you had access to a copy of the number codes for the various titles. This would certainly help in the identification and authentication process for the Larson books. I will check to see what the number is for my Larson copy of Wonderworld next time I am at my safety deposit box.

Thanks again!

Jon,

Thanks a lot for the extremely interesting info on Larsons.

If you happen to have come across any Disney books from the Larson collection, I'd be very interested in hearing about it? Below is a scan of the only one I have seen.
