I think he's "existed"...just had a different name and avatar in the past. ;)

Nope, you and the other one who suggested it are both wrong. For the record, I'm based in England and this is the only board i.d. I've ever had. I have no idea why you would think otherwise, or who Lavaman is/was.

I see pretty much every online response has been derisive so far, so my instincts were right.

FTR - I liked your witty tune about GNC (shrug)

Like him, what folks are doing is attempting to protect the community from bad actors. You should really read the entire history on Chip for that background. The poll that Buzz put up has some of those links. The relevant post you mentioned regarding Chip fulfilling the deal is great but should have been done long ago. There's been a pattern with him that can't be ignored any longer. For some reason I think your initial post is more about you than the current HOS poll.

You haven't been here long and you shouldn't take people's lack of response or perceived negative comments to your postings to heart. There are many good folks on the boards and sorry you don't feel this community is a place for you.

So, a post that actually has something factual to say about Chip and his dealings gets no response whilst the tit for tat one-upmanship posts rattle on.

This is why I stopped posting on the boards after a brief spell trying to get people interested in comic related discussion points (see “Re: How does having the last post in a thread make you feel?” for my less than subtle goodbye).

I joined the boards because I had a lot to say about comics, having been a collector with a variant focus for many years. After an initially encouraging start – I got some good responses to my Pence Summary and Font Variant threads – both posts fizzled out despite my attempts to prompt further debate. Bottom line, no one was really interested.

So I posted away in other threads, adding pictures and additional knowledge and was more or less ignored by the ‘regulars’ of those threads. My attempt to establish whether Marvel 1999 price variants exist re-ignited a fight between two board members, so I knocked that one on the head.

The boards feel like a private party sometimes and you’re not invited because, God forbid, you might know something that the ‘regulars’ don’t. And we couldn’t have that could we.

Because I’m a human being, with all the frailties that brings, I checked the boards for a while to see if anyone would notice I’d gone. They didn’t of course, but I did start to follow posts like this one about Chip while I looked. And I started to feel quite depressed. What a rotten thread this is.

I can’t for the life of me think why otherwise intelligent, busy people would want to spend so long on here arguing over and over again about the same points. The desire to land the ‘killer’ blow in a thread and be seen as the moral conscience is clearly so important to some members it’s nauseating. They must go to bed thinking about it, wake up thinking about it and spend their day thinking about it.

The best post in this whole rotten thread was “can we just DROP the mental health thing?” from Porcupine48 who, I’m guessing, would rather not have had to post it. And here I am coming out of self-enforced exile to add to the dross. Why am I bothering?!

But here’s one difference – I will not post on these boards again, regardless of what responses come. I know that most will be scathing and I’ll likely be accused of being flouncy and a prima donna. Someone will spot something in the post that allows them to post a funny cutting one liner response, and that will be followed by smiley-winking-clapping face emoticons.

Probably no one will say “You know, the guys got a point” and let it stand.

I’m off to live my life. However dull it is, I need to find something better to do than post here.

To the few good people on the boards who offered a little support, and avoid these rotten posts – like I should have – thank you.

So, you applaud a post that is on topic to the issue at hand, then go on a long off-topic diatribe that has nothing to do with probation discussions (shrug)

This comes off as a cry for attention IMO, and your latest response proves that despite your claim to the contrary, you're not really done, but actually checking back frequently for responses to your needlessly dramatic farewell.

It's not all about you. When I was in the Coast Guard we would unfortunately get called out to the Newport Bridge on a regular basis. There were 2 types of these calls. The first was "Someone is standing on the rail of the bridge." These people never jumped, it was a cry for help (which I hope they received). The second type was "There's an abandoned car on the bridge and a footprint on the railing." These were the people (RIP) that were serious.

Moral of the story: If you want to leave, that's your prerogative, but please just be a footprint on the railing.

I used to have an uncle nicknamed Sparky. Also, so much for the last post. :acclaim:

This is absolutely 100% true.

My Uncle Danny had a dog named Sparky. It was a nasty mean and incredibly fat chihuahua, it looked like a furry football with short legs but boy did he love that dog. He must have had it for almost twenty years and he cried when Sparky went to the big dog park in the sky.

RIP Sparky

Not to derail this point here, but I'm wondering how you get that soap box all the way up there on top of that high horse?

I think that fact that most make light of a post like that is kinda sad. He isn't saying anything that isn't wrong and many of you ignore it and think your behavior is acceptable.

While granted the way the boardie posted this is odd to say the least it doesn't mean the point they are making is completely valid.

While granted the way the boardie posted this is odd to say the least it doesn't mean the point they are making is completely valid.

There's PLENTY wrong with that post.

He joined 2 months ago. He's calling out everyone else for being self-absorbed and arrogant and then FDQ's going on three times because no one is interested in his threads topics and his interests. He's flabbergasted that, being here only 2 months, that people didn't notice he didn't post for a couple of days as if his is the only bright and shining light out of the 38,000+ registered users. See the irony in that?

He hasn't taken the time to watch, listen, read and get to know the people here. His thread topics may have been discussed ad infinitum in the 15+ years these boards existed before he decided to walk on our water and grace us with his topics for debate.

Did he stop to think about the point of the Probation Discussion thread? It doesn't look like it. People here have taken the time to become a part of this community, not for how many responses they can get to their own pet topics, but to really be a part of the community. Many of us know each other outside of this place and have formed long term friendships and relationships. This is a place we seek to protect. It's not just a place to discuss "Who's stronger Hulk or Thor?". It's that but a whole lot more.

And the point about "intelligent, busy people spending time arguing" demonstrates that, perhaps, he may have just discovered the internet in the last 90 days.

No one who's been here, become a real part of the community, gotten to actually know these people, seen how this place will help and protect and assist its members when they need it, and has fought the battles to eliminate predators, con men and thieves from our ranks needs to get lectured by someone butthurt enough by not getting enough traction in their own pet threads or that no one noticed they were gone for a couple of days out to wipe his on the welcome mat as he's headed out the door (in the slowest way possible).

So, no, I don't see him making completely valid points about anyone other then himself.

Not to mention that a quick scan of his posting history seems to show that about half of all his posts were in the "Words that just pop into your head" thread.

And we're being chastised for not having meaningful discussions (shrug)

I would just like to state that my books from Chip arrived today. He pm'd me the tracking number and said that he was shipping them Priority mail, which he did. Although I will never do business with him again, and firmly believe that he belongs on the Probation List and in the Hall of Shame, I do want to give him credit for fulfilling his obligation and make sure that everyone reading this thread knows that he did so. I'd also like it to be known that my purchase from him was for 6 books for $25.00 shipped, and he spent $11.66 on shipping. That seems like a lot of work to net only $13.34, and I felt that I at least owe him the consideration of letting the board members know that he fulfilled his part of my transaction with him.
