Infinite Marvel Picture Frame books

So, I'm following through on my promise to my wife to pick up the last 10 years of books I've purchased at cons that have all pretty much sat where I put them after walking in door. I can no longer argue with Greggy--apparently I do not know what I have in my collection any more.

Here's the first treat--judging from the label and books in the same pile, I'm guessing I picked this up at a Wizard Philly show a looong time ago.

Interestingly, only 32 current BA comic listings using "picture frame" in the title, and only 27 of them are actual picture frame comics. I guess what is a fun niche here on the boards is ignored outside.

Marvel did this variation with the covers on thor 208-210, and I believe their other titles as well during that brief period:

Not really a "picture frame." Is there a name for this?

I don't recall hearing a name for this post-picture frame design: maybe it's a split frame?

It lasted intermittently for at least 6 months after the picture frames stopped with the January, 1973 cover dated Hulk #159. Thor #207 doesn't have a split frame, but 208-210 and 212 do. Similarly, FFs 130 and 131 are split frames, 132 and 134 aren't, but 133, 135, and 136 are.

Having started a 45 year (and counting) involvement with comic reading and collecting initially with picture frame Marvels, I'm definitely partial to the genre, so much so that I've got two sets, one slabbed and the other for reading.

That's dedication to a cause.
