Recommend any good western comics as reads?

I just took a history class at college and became really interested in the wild wild west/civil war period, besides Jonah Hex(the benchmark) what are some other good reads?

The recent Bat Lash mini-series was not bad. Worth picking up as a bargain set or TPB.

I've read and would recommend most of the classic Hex and Bat Lash BA books, but this series is the best I've read of this genre. Recently read the Confederate Gold saga - magnificent.

A buddy of mine did a really good western murder mystery comic a few years back called THE BALLAD OF UTOPIA.

Ran 8-issues, full beginning, middle and an end.

Art by Mike Hoffman, story by Barry Buchanan

Regardless of how you feel about Preacher itself, the Saint of Killers mini-series was an awesome western!

The Civil War era stories found in EC's Two-Fisted Tales are excellent, and well researched.

 

 

...but. of course, I'm currently on a Kirby western kick, so check out Boy's Ranch.

yep, and really all the lee/kirby westerns. all came out at the same time as the superhero stuff and very good just in a different way.
