So did this guy ever complete his collection?

Yup, the last book he needed was New Adventures # 26. He could've finished sooner if David T Alexander hadn't doubled the asking price on his for sale copy, once he heard this story, but he eventually did finish. IIRC a Boardie sent him a low grade copy for free? Or was that the Buzzy # 70?

What happened to him?

If you read any of Ian posts, you'll be able to tell he was a self-absorbed egomaniac who cared only about himself. So, after he used this board and its members' hard work and time to complete his goal, what'd he do? He left! I mean, why hang around, he got what he want, end of story :eyeroll:

I seem to remember him posting that DC's endless reboots and continuity blowups made him stop buying new comics. So I guess his collection is complete up to the point where he stopped. I don't think he's posted on the boards in years.

Yeah, he hasn't posted in 2 years, and only posted in more than one thread in the past 3 years.

And it doesn't look like the boards have changed all the much. Only thing I'd say, is nobody writes super long responses like they seemingly used too.

In fact, according to Jacob Schneider, responses today, in relation to responses in 2003 (when the CGC first began calculating this), have increased a full 32.56 %, but many believe that although the responses are 'longer,' they in fact have less content......fart and Dck jokes have become the standard of posts...the HDLX calculation have deleted the substance of the post and are now subject to categorizing posters, rather than the content of their posts, this happenned as a result of Robert Maddox in November of 2012

I'm so confused ???

This book? Double Action Comics #2

Copy A - Hand Assembled File Copy

Metropolis owned the highest graded copy and sent it for review to a Mr. Richard Kylberg in 1996. Kylberg bought the book. This evident through the letter that Heritage shows in the next listing. Eventually Kylberg's book was listed through Heritage once Kylberg no longer had need for it with Heritage auctioning it off in May of 2008. Heritage sold the book for $16,730

Metropolis Comics won the book back from Heritage or may have purchased it as some point after the May 2008 Heritage auction. They now have it listed for $22,000

Copy B - CGC 5.5 Restored Slight P- Tear Seals to Cover and Reinforced

This copy has no trail to it but perhaps it is the one that was discussed in this thread. This book sold on February of 2008 for $16,730. If you missed it though the owner says it is for sale... They want $55,000

When I looked, there was 4 on census, right? Crazy stuff. And it sounds like Ian was just driving up the price.

Currently there are six copies on the census, including the CGC 3.0 that, I assume, is the one Levine eventually bought from Metro.

Didn't Metro have a raw copy for sale on their site a year or two ago? hm

I have a 20 month old toddler, and I haven't had that earworm in my head for a long time. Thanks a lot, jerk. :P:foryou:

This thread should be stickied as an example of how not to handle yourself with the comic book auction houses.

It was much better live.

So much goodness was clipped out.

Yeah, these types of threads are usually the best when live and unedited. The best live thread I ever saw on my short time here was "The House of Comics" thread. It had everything you need for drama. It ended up having a real life tragic ending though.

Note: The thread is not about the good boardie on here of the same name. The scammer was using a variation of their business name as well.

Ah, good times, courtesy of one of the biggest losers to cross the board's path. And remember, I believe this thread had dozens of posts removed, also. Some vintage anti-american BS from Mr. Levine, maybe some slandering of Al Stoltz, and more goodies (or maybe these were in another gem from Mr. Levine). Good times, indeed.
