What can I do to help improve the boards?

221 posts in this topic

This thread is like the current boards in microcosm. The thread started with good intentions, got derailed with lighthearted antics, got back on track, cliques joined in and had a conversation and pretty much ignored anything thread related or written by anyone not in the clique, then it almost righted itself, and now it's losing steam while other threads become the "hot" topic of the day when in reality they're only heading down the same path they all head down, the one paved with good intentions.

Which pretty much mirrors, at one time or another, every other internet message board in existance.

Well, I was involved in the hijinks last night and pretty much bring hijinks wherever I go. To me, this place is about comics and laughs and I love both. To think that a diverse group such as we have here is going to be homogenized or even harmonious is asking a lot from a messageboard.

I think Andy's premise is great; I support it and him. Anyone that thinks a thread should stay rigidly on topic is entitled to that opinion, and they certainly aren't wrong, but I would suggest lightening up, Francis.

I'm not passing judgments on anything, just thought it was interesting to see the evolution of this thread, which seems to be following a similar pattern that others have followed. I like much of the humor that goes on here, so that's certainly not an issue. But I will admit that I feel like an outsider much of the time because I don't understand the inside jokes. In this case, I didn't know that haikus were a tradition.

Of course, I've always assumed I was on everyone's ignore list and wasn't expecting anyone to notice in the first place, so things are turning up already.

1. What Firecrotch said.

2. I didn't realize I was in a clique!

3. The only rule that matters is the golden one, the latest internet iteration suffices, which is: "Don't be a Dic.k"

4. Firefox has spellcheck! Wow. I should have switched yearrrrrrrrrs ago.

I was hoping for lots of suggestions, but didn't get too many. That's fine. I kind of expected the thread to go in a different direction after a while anyway, so that wasn't really a surprise. I do thank everyone for their input, whether it be thread-related or otherwise. :foryou:

Let's hope that there is a bit more respect here amongst members. I myself am going to wipe the slate clean and start over. Not my post count, mind you, I've been working too hard on that. Everyone is back on an even playing field again. I can tear up that list now. What you do from here on out defines you.

Whoops! Time to update the list! :) Can't believe there weren't any in 2008. I must have missed them.

;):kidaround:

Oh we run our course and prove that the forum is over, no more debates are worthy, OT has taken over, and we are all going to kill each other about once or twice a year.

I talk to anyone who talks to me. So should I also feel that you are ignoring anything I say? Im hurt :(

I don't want any part of your homogenization process, thank you very much. You come near me with your homogenizing ways...and I'll keel you.

Amen.

Listen...if you get upset because a thread is derailed, whoever you are, you need to lighten up. It takes but one post to get a thread "back on track", if that's what it requires.

Life is far, far too short to be worrying about thread derailing.

Fair enough?

That is the second time in less than 24 hours you've referred to Firecrotch's crotch.

Is there something you're not telling the class...?

I agree.

It's less of a clique and more of a Rankin-Bass cult of personality.

Put one foot in front of the other....

I missed your 10,000th. Congrats. I'm right behind you.

Literally, I'm typing this on my Iphone, standing right behind you.

Don't turn around....

At the risk of adding to the bromance smell, ummm :foryou:

I was mostly making a joke about my performance here on the boards. If I had a title, it'd be Thread Killer, or Ignored Guy, or That Guy Who Changed His Name and Everyone Misses the Old Him Because This New Guy's Kinda Ignorant. I'm amazed at how often I've commented in a thread that's getting hot and heavy, only to see what I considered an intelligent comment ignored.

Now I feel like I'm on the therapist's couch. I guess my father didn't love me enough as a child. :o

85% of what I say is ignored, and I think I'm a genius. meh

You have to look at it this way....if what you have to say is said for the benefit of a response...you're gonna be disappointed. You have to say what you have to say solely because you feel it is something that's worth saying, even if it never gets a response.

Any response, and/or ensuing dialogue/debate/foodfight/flame war, is just gravy.

If I only posted to get a response, I'd log off a sobbing pile of tears every day....

(wait for it.....waaaaait for it....)
