I finally entered my Stevens books on the registry... I'm #3 (for now)!

:applause:

Joshua was buying up Stevens books long before it was the hot thing to do.

(worship)

I was hoarding Stevens books back in the late 1980s.Quit collecting around 1992,sold out in 2001,started up again in '03 and rebuilt my Stevens collection up quite nicely but stupidly sold them off awhile back and now I'm restocking again.Third time's charms.

My prize was a signed lithograph of Betty from the Glamour International cover an old flame gave me for Christmas in 1987.

Also had most of the Eclipse posters too. They looked really great in that large size.

Ah well,life goes on.

Do you still have it?

BTW, I think Dave's first work was on the Tarzan comic strip helping Russ Manning.

Even though I don't compete in the registry awards going forward, I still care how these are handled and administered.

Stevens registry points adjustment request

Anyone have other books they'd recommend changes on? By the way, is Quack #1 his 1st professional work - I'd hope his first work receives the right recognition?

Thanks Keith.

What was his 1st comic book work? Here is what shows up on the DS checklist, but in chronological order from 1975-1977.

- SAN DIEGO COMIC CONVENTION, San Diego Comic-Con Souvenir Book (1975) a a(i)

1976

- ALFONSO, BARRY, Mysticogryfil #3 (Winter 1976-77) s(21-22) a(3, 23)

- SAN DIEGO COMIC CONVENTION. San Diego Comic-Con Souvenir Book (1976) a a(i)

1977

- BYBLOS PRODUCTIONS, Tarzan Monthly #1 (1977) s(i)

- LUG EDITEUR (France), La Guerre Des Etoiles (1977) s(i)

- SAN DIEGO COMIC CONVENTION. San Diego Comic Convention Program Book (1977) a a(i)

- KITCHEN SINK COMICS, Fear and Laughter #1 (September 1977) s(i)

- MARVEL COMICS, Marvel Special Editon #2 - Star Wars (1977) s(i)

- MARVEL COMICS, Star Wars #6 (December 1977) s(i)

LEGEND:

a - Art; a(i) - Art inks; a(p) - Art pencils; c - Cover art; c(i) - Cover inks; c(p) - Cover pencils; d - Design; Idx - Index; i - Interview; Int - Introduction; s - Story art; s(i) - Story art inks; s(p) - Story art pencils

--------------------------------------

So it looks like Quack #1 came before Fear & Laughter #1. What about the other items from 1975 - any of these in comic book format?

The San Diego Comic-Con 1975 Souvenir Book seems like a candidate as well. The Dave Stevens site has a mini-image of the 1975 convention book, but I think that is just the Iron Fist drawing - not the cover.

1975

- Art, Art inks

- Iron Fist by Carl Taylor and Dave Stevens.

- Silver Surfer by Jack Kirby inked by Dave Stevens.

This may be the cover of the souvenir book.

And one is for sale on Amazon.

It's starting to feel like Quack #1 was the 1st comic book professional work, but one of the fanzines/convention books is the real 1st published work.

Thoughts?

Destiny Science Fiction #2

Been looking for this with a passion for awhile. :pullhair:

I wonder what the print run was for this one, as I just found a new search candidate.

:cloud9:

Dave was just a kid, 19-20, when this came out.

Been a while since we did this... Here's my raw collection of Dave.

Hey Joshua- :hi:

Nice collection! I'm not familiar with the book just to the right of the Mr. Monster and below Elvira. What is it?

That's been in my watched list since the day he put it up.

I keep waiting on it to be relisted with a "Make an Offer" option.

Well, now you made me look to see what other Stevens books he may have.

1974 comics fanzine THE CREATURE #1, Dave Stevens art

1974?

Creature1_Stevens.jpg

Black & white interior. Cover by Carl Taylor and inked by Dave Stevens (credit at bottom of front cover). Editorial on inside back cover mentions Dave and that he had just gone pro. Early Dave Stevens art which doesn't appear on his official wedsite index as Dave left off various fan art projects. Most of the issue is a comic strip by Carl Taylor titled "The Creature."
