If you're patient you can find a copy much cheaper than what's being offered on E-bay currently.

Also, as an option for a cover collection, you can always go with a copy of Alter Ego #21 which has 2 covers on the book, one of which is the same from Iger Comics Kingdom. You can get those from the publisher even - http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=486

For like $5.

As far as rarity goes, here's my list of the harder things to find in my experience:

The Back Issues is a bit tough, no idea how many were printed, but they don't seem to be very plentiful.

The second printing of 3-D Zone #16 is a tough one as well. No number or Canadian price on this one. (Free in Canada?!)

Seduction of the Innocent Non-3D #1 - I believe there were only 100 copies printed of this one, I've been searching high and low and have yet to come across one. As a completionist I would give a tooth, or some other body part for a copy.

Men of Mystery #202 - Fanzine cover for a friend of Dave's wedding, with a personal note from Dave on the cover. This cover was also printed in Selected Sketches & Studies #3 and is of Captain America. There were only 50 printed, and 49 out there, since I have #2 of the 50 :)

is there any concensious as to the rarest? not graded, just overall hardest to find

One of my personal grails. Only 50 of these were made for Dragon-Con 1999. Collaboration between William Stout and Dave Stevens.

There are also the Bettie Page trading cards by Topps that were never published.

Any personal sketches or OA trumps almost anything. IMHO :)

Oh also, something I would love to have but cannot find, are the posters of the 2 different Boss ads he did for GP magazine. These must be super rare since not many guitar players would spend $5 on a "Sampler Safari" or a "Feedback Monster" poster.. :D

My one hope is that there is a secret stash of these somewhere that haven't seen the light of day since the 80's :D

If the estate has any original art remaining they sure are taking their time dispersing it. I've seen stuff from when he was taking classes doing oil paintings come from the estate, but I have yet to see an OA page of any sort come from them on ebay. If I were a betting man I would say they probably went to an auction house OR they want to only sell a certain amount each year in order to maintain the estate. Hard to say really unless the caretaker of the estate just lets us know.

I could kick myself for not getting one of those. I was there that year.

The Estate is now using "art brokers" to sell the REALLY GOOD STUFF. In the past they have been burned by direct sales to fans( I use this term loosely ).

I don't blame them a bit then. Still, it looks like with the exposure they get off of ebay currently they could get more out of the items on their own without having to pay the auction house fees or the art broker commissions which will be more than ebay's fees more often than not. Plus, some of those auction houses will list it on ebay anyway for more exposure.
