TWD TV SHOW--Offical Discussion Thread

Negan delivered his lines well and was almost likeable, but didn't really have the physical presence I'd expect from someone who likes to beat peoples' heads in with a baseball bat.

I know Hollywood likes everyone to be skinny these days, regardless of role, but they should have gone with someone a little bulkier IMO. Negan is a power-hitting first baseman, not a lead-off shortstop.

I know I said I wasn't coming back, but I have to chime in on this one. 100% true!!!!!

This actor is NOT intimidating. All the actors have nailed the characters perfectly except Negan. He's not a big guy like his book counterpart, he's just a tall lanky guy. The casting for him is garbage just like the show has become. I am done with the show. It just saddens me because of all the dedication I and most of us have put into the show. Hell I've even tattooed WD memorabilia on myself. I'll still read the book and even that has lost some of my interest but the show can kiss my tattooed butt. There's way better tv on. The can suck the milk from some other person teat. 2c

Almost none of those endings are cliffhangers. When the writers finish their main story, their main theme for the season, it's not a cliffhanger. Giving hints to where the new season will start, a portend of what's to come, AFTER completing the story line in entirely acceptable. Falling short of completing the story as a ratings grab? Not so much.

Given that there are always story lines to be completed and they want cohesiveness they will carry things over, but this was absolutely insulting.

That seems a lot like what Kirkman and Gimple said last night. Main story/theme ended, next season is a new story. So I guess last night wasn't a cliffhanger by your definition, if the writers and producers say the story ended?

And how you can say the prison being completely overrun with Carl dragging injured Rick away while he says "don't look back" isn't a cliffhanger is beyond me. Or Morgan showing up at Alexandria saying "Rick?" as the episode ends. Or them starting their walk through the herd while elsewhere Daryl & co. are confronted by Negan's gang. Midseason or season end doesn't matter, by very definition those are cliffhangers...dramatic scenarios left without resolution for the next installment.

cliffhanger

noun

1.

a melodramatic adventure serial in which each installment ends in suspense in order to interest the reader or viewer in the next installment.

Again, I hate they ended it that way, but you can't redefine "cliffhanger" to fit your argument.

The writers don't get to just say "we're done with that story" and that's where it ends. They know very well they didn't finish the themes of this season.

As for "cliffhanger definitions" you've got to be able to see the difference between wrapping up NONE of the themes from the season like they did last night, and wrapping all of the main themes and beginning new ones or giving a portend to what the new seasons themes will be.

Nobody dies until next season. Negan barely shows up right at the end of the episode.

Death happens first episode of next season. Sets the tone.

He absolutely killed someone...and had a 10 minute monologue before doing so. (shrug)

You're making assumptions. Of course we know someone "died", but that's because we read the comics. Did they show anyone dying?

You don't have to agree, but I was pretty close in my guess as to what would happen.

I feel lied to and deceived.

Andrew Lincoln felt sick to his stomach about the episode?! Gut-wrenching? :eyeroll:

Just garbage. Garbage writing. It saddens me because I feel like the show is going down the ter and it's long been my favorite show.

The Glenn dumpster scene.

Burning the hoard in the river.

Daryl blowing up the biker gang with a rocket launcher.

Denise replacing Abe.

Now this "cliffhanger".

None of these scenes or anything close to it would have been included in the earlier seasons. They're laughable scenes and I've never felt this show was at that level in the past.

I loved the rocket launcher, but of everything on that list I thought the "Burning the hoard in the river" was the worst. One of the reasons why I thought the first episode was the weakest this second half.

I was wondering where they left it when they confronted the largest group of Saviors. Would have been handy.

I too am among the pissed and think it was a total cop out but what they did do right is stir up a lot of emotion for me. My wife and I were definitely nervous the entire episode so they built it up right but then... then they just made me not really care. I cared more about if other people were as angry as me then who got killed.

Yep. I thought the episode was pretty good, but the ending was really weak. A total hack move by the writers/producers.

That said, I will be watching Season 7 when it returns. And I will voice my displeasure (again) when it turns out to be Aaron or Eugene that gets the baby seal treatment.

lol Negan gives me a reason to watch every episode, it sure won't be boring!

...I still think Negan would have been better cast if portrayed by Andrew Dice Clay

I can see why they did it after watching Talking Dead. Gimple basically said as soon as Lucille dropped and the tension before it did the story arc of Rick & company was ended He said everything after that moment is a new world for them. In a way I can see where that makes perfect sense. Just like when that season ended with Rick & company at Terminus getting locked up in the train car. They had defeated looks on their faces and Rick basically said they messed with the wrong people. The next season was everything after that key moment.

I saw this quote in an article that sums up where the show is after this season. I was not a fan of Mazzara, and I liked was Gimple was doing when he took over as showrunner. However, I have to agree with the writer's opinion on this.

The ratings of season 7’s premiere are definitely guaranteed, but I find myself looking back at the bigger picture of how this show has changed over the years. The first season, under the leadership of showrunner Frank Darabont, was exceptional in that it actually proved the comic could work as a show. The subsequent two seasons under Glen Mazzara had their high points and low points, but we’ve now seen three full seasons under Scott Gimple, and it’s safe to say there are some real problematic patterns, including a reliance on tricks and gimmicks to give the impression of escalation and growth when people are really just running (or should I say driving?) in circles.
