What complete runs of silver age series do you own?

99 posts in this topic

...Im actually curious how many boardies have Infantino's SA Flash run (105-174 slabbed or otherwise). at least a handful on this thread apparently do...

I have all but 105-07 and 110. Someday...sigh...

what kind of grades are you lookin for on those?

I'd have to take unslabbed, 2.0-2.5 at best...

My runs look similar to Chromium's and *Bronze age fan*'s, but I'm too pooped to make a list that includes everything plus the issues I'm missing. In the meantime, here's Jack Kirby's run on Battle, #64 - #70. I included #63 since it has a Ditko story (plus Sinnott, Maneely, Jim Mooney, Ayers and Heck), and left out the earlier Atom Age and Golden Ages issues I have. At this point in the series, pretty much the same crew that cranked out the pre-hero monster books were simultaneously working on war stories.

I resisted the temptation.

From what I've seen on the board, you seem to have a pretty comprehensive collection of SA DC- are you going for everything published from a certain era, crossing all genres? I'm curious how close your collection is to complete (% wise), or what books you've obtained that you've felt to be particularly tough to track down

I'm not quite working on completing all Silver Age DC comics going back to about 1957. I'm not working on the romance from that era, and I'm only pecking away at certain war titles. I also only started on Superman, Action and Lois Lane about five years ago. Superboy, Jimmy Olsen, Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Sugar and Spike, the new look Batman, and Blackhawk in the militaristic blue uniforms are other titles that don't interest me much. Fox and the Crow though I really like!

I guess I am otherwise plugging away at most of the rest.

I have a major problem completing runs because I'm constantly dismissing books with which I was once completely satisfied as inadequate with respect to condition. I've accordingly only completed three good runs to my satisfaction:

Atom 1-45 including Showcase 34-36

Hawkman 1-27 including Brave & the Bold 34-36 & 42-44 (but even there I'm wondering about Brave & the Bold 34 but I'm not likely to replace it any time soon given the prices of pristine copies these days)

Captain Atom 75 -89

I thought I'd completed Doctor Solar Doctor Solar Man of the Atom 1-27 but I found a paint stain on issue #3 a few months ago!

I also need only Metamorpho #8 to complete my run of #1-17 including Brave & the Bold 57 & 58.

I'd completed Adventures of the Jaguar 1-15 but then decided that my issues #2, 3, 4 and 7 just weren't nice enough compared with my best.

I'm close in Aquaman but I just discovered that my issue #56 wasn't up to my quality standards and I'm bothered by the miswraps of my Showcase 33, Aquaman 8 and 36.

Green Lantern is another run where it's always been two steps forward and one step back. I still need Showcase 22 and 23 and I'd like a better copy of Showcase 24. I also need Green Lantern 4, 6 and 15. My issues #13 and #25 have miswraps that bother me, I'd like a more pristine copy of #24 and my #47 isn't as white and bright as the others around it. I've upgraded so many of my copies in the last fifteen years but I never seem to be satisfied.

Justice League of America presents a similar problem. I need Brave & the Bold 28 but who knows if I'll ever be willing and able to spring for one. I need issues #3, 5, 6 and 47 and a whiter copy of #77. The grease pencil arrival date on my otherwise pristine #23 bothers me, and I'd probably upgrade several more between #10-40 if I saw really pristine copies.

I'm very close to completing runs of Sea Devils, Metal Men, Doom Patrol and Teen Titans but I still need 3-6 issues of these titles to complete my runs.

I'm also deep into titles such as the Flash, Wonder Woman, Challengers of the Unknown, Mystery in Space, Tales of the Unexpected, House of Secrets, Rip Hunter and Adventures of the Fly but not surprisingly major holes start to appear back from 1962.

I've been financially strapped for the last year or so and have therefore not been adding to my collections as aggressively as in the past.

Hmmm. Let's see.

I have a run of the Ditko Spidey's . AF 15 - Spider-Man 38. I used to have a run through 140ish, but parred it down.

FF 1-135.

Hulk 1-6, 102-400

TTA 51-101

Metal Men/ Showcase 37-40, 1-33

Doom Patrol/My Greatest Adventures 80-121

Doctor Solar 1-27

Avengers 1-100

And some mini runs of titles. I believe I may be the original Marvel Zombie, as with the exception of Sgt Fury, and the Millie/Patsy "fashion" comics, I used to buy/read every title Marvel released/published. :insane:

Whats up Bro? I changed some of the numbers on the titles.I saw some people were listist what they had to current. Some of the new books I have no idea any more on the numbers..They have changed numbers and went back to numbers way too many times for me to keep track. I have told my LCS to drop the book if its strays from the long running numbers. And to add the title back if it goes back to the higher numbers. lol And I have not picked up my sub in a few months..So I am lost. I have also added some books I either completed or I am close on.
