Green Lantern already being compared to Clash of the Titans!?

58 posts in this topic

Kinda reminds me of the knuckleheaded speculators that cornered the market on Howard the Duck #1's during the run up to its mega-flop.

What? There was a Howard the Duck megaflop?

:ohnoez::cry:

Time to start offloading Howard books for pennies on the dollar.

C'mon that a late 70's book with zillion of copies. The last Howard the Duck #1 in 9.8 sold for over $2K. :o

Oooh, you got me there. I was talking about the speculation up to the Howard movie release in 1986 and the dump afterwards. For many years, before CGC, Howard the Duck issues didn't command that kind of price. Of course, with nostalgia and the mania for 9.8 copies, most any Bronze Marvel first issues will command a high price. But how many Howard speculators back then are saying they made a mint off of the movie bump back in 1986?

Let me see if I can figure this out real quick from the side of non comic nerdness...

Guy: Hey lets go see that Green Lantern movie...

Gal: What is it?

Guy: A comic movie (uh oh he thinks)

Gal: Ummm okay, who is in it?

Guy: Ryan Reynolds...and uhm...

Gal: (holding excitement in to not upset Guy) Sure we can go I suppose

i don't understand the appeal of ryan reynolds. yes, he is a very good looking guy, but that's it. he's so frigging boring in everything i've ever seen him in. very whitebread. my wife agrees. understanding he does really look the part of hal jordan who is a stiff whitebread type... but seriously, it took GL 35+ years to even be remotely interesting (if you include the GA version) ....

Check out Buried...a bit different role...

I'll wait until there is some more reliable reviews.

Just remember all the talk in this forum when the first pictures of Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight first appeared... (I'm sure you can search to find out many who should have been eating crow)

By the way Nolan has started work on the next one.

This may be sour grapes, but the agent comes off desperate in the article, and his client looks like she's deflating in that dress.

Sour grapes? It's damage control and protecting his client from the eventual fallout of the POS production. Whenever this has happened, and it has quite a few times, the movie is always a steaming pile of :censored:.

It takes a potentially career-threateningly-bad movie for an agent to act like this.

Which is why I mentioned his desperate tone. It's one thing when a lead or supporting actor makes a conscious decision to remain tight-lipped about their opinions of a film, and refuse to jump on the hype-wagon the execs/producers are expecting from them, but this guy is a moral hazard to himself (and his ability to continue to work as an agent) and his client, who no producer will want to hear or see on their set unless she drops this guy. The only remote way this behaviour is seen as an acceptable career move is if burning bridges is your thing, and your on stand-by to perform in an intimate rescreening that resurrecst Colonel Walter E. Kurtz character in Kramer's apartment.

Nope, keep trying to figure it out though.

I bet you were the guy who walked out of the first Tron and told everyone it was the best movie ever made, no one can possibly top it :golfclap:

expect the worst, then pray it's fantastic four.

? Those FF's were really bad.

I think my 2 month old niece might have a shot at capturing Dr Doom's persona more than what that writer, director and actor gave us in those movies.

judging by the tone of that "report" by a "hollywood agent" (who does he represent btw ?) it sounds like if Green Lantern is as good as the FF movies, which were terrible, it would be a win.

Martin Campbell is a good director however so I can't really see the movie being that bad. Maybe not good but not horrendous.

Sometimes Martin Campbell movies are so bad, there is "No Escape" from how terrible they are, even after they are over.

:gossip:Legend of Zorro was an obvious mortgage payment movie too and I am still trying to figure out Vertical Limit.

lol never saw that one, I'm guessing from a long time ago ? All I know is Zorro, Casino Royale, and Edge of Darkness. I enjoyed Casino Royale and Edge of Darkness, Zorro ain't my type of movie but it wasn't terrible.

lol I was talking about the sequel to Zorro. Absolutely none of the charm that made the original such a sweet ride, before comic movies started to explode. I always considered The Mask of Zorro a prototype of doing a story about a masked avenger right. My 2c

I would like to point out this shouldn't be news anyway. Who afterall, in their right minds would greenlight a $150 million dollar Ryan Reynolds movie. I'm just hoping Green Lantern fans, get the movie they deserve somewhere down the line.

And that's just the production costs... actual costs of the movie is closer to $225 million.... good luck on recouping that....

Overseas should be no problem if they keep the dialouge stupid(easier to dub). doh!

Eating crow for what? His excellent portrayal of a character who wasn't recognizable as the Joker? (shrug)

I expect they may have some trouble with an overseas audience, or at least some media attention that they don't quite want.
