Christopher Reeve

I remember when he died - it was sad in the oddest way. I'm a grown adult - I know there is no such thing as "Superman" and of course, I never knew the guy. But when Christopher Reeve died, I felt like a kid again - but in a sad way; because to me, it seemed like a real-life superhero died.

I completely understand.

I felt that way and have been feeling that way since Steve Jobs died.

I also hated seeing Christopher Reeves in the wheelchair. He was such a big guy and was reduced to something so sad. :(

I think for me it was the way that Christopher handled the whole, terrible situation. In the face of what is one of the most devastating injuries that we humans can be subjected to, he handled everything with...heck, I don't even know the word I'm looks for: elegance, honor, bravery...take your pick.

I felt bad for the man, but never pitied him because I just don't think he would have gone for that. He took his unfortunate situation and used it to help others in the same situation who didn't have the avenues that he did. And he did it until the day he died. Christopher was certainly someone we could all learn something from.

RIP Christopher Reeve.

The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation provides considerable support for cutting-edge research into treating spinal cord injuries. It's a great charity worth a serious look:

yes, he handled his situation like a Superman, with courage and grace. Many others might have veered into depression or suicide. Having a supportive wife and family plus financial resources helps.
