A Nightmare on Square Street

From angry squares a chasing, to scaredy circles fleeing...

I asked CGC Mike to merge the content of the Harvey thread I started with this one, so we're back to the one thread now (sorry again @Hepcat for missing yours).

I've posted a journal entry about Harvey 15c price variants here, if anyone fancies a variant peek:

This isn't one of them, but you'd have to be dotty to hunt for them

Here's a bit of fun :)

I saw these images online of a newsstand in the UK taken from the 1972 Hitchcock film Frenzy 408427465_Frenzy1972.jpg.529ffcf50a2bd8b9a2592cf548925b5b.jpg:

Capture.PNG.21a49567ee1373071b25351f04fbc393.PNG 287574570_Frenzy1972(Wendy68Spooky125Aug71).jpg.0a82584b9c526af39cea70854999601b.jpg

The two discernible Harvey comics are Wendy #68 and Spooky #125, both cover dated August 1971:

The Creepy Worlds you can see there is #123, which is undated but believed to have been on sale in 1971:

Happily, I was able to find an image of the Punch Magazine, and it is the 10th August 1971 issue:

659931173_Puch10thAugust1971.thumb.jpg.264a3caf7f773f7736d24c67d625e82c.jpg  punch.PNG.a9130d39683668e202e50680d9ab8f9e.PNG

So unless the newsstand was failing to pull his punches, heh heh, it seems that our Harveys were on sale in the UK in the actual month they were dated. And we now know when that Alan was on sale too!

Cosmic or what

I found this for a measly one pound twenty five at the fair yesterday. In all my comic collecting years, I've never bought a Comic Reader.

They're actually quite interesting :)

UK forum member @themagicrobot posted this internal advert from the UK reprint title 'Spellbound' which is dated 1960:

spellbound8insidebackcover.jpg.589b0de510126f8b6fb65744c75df1d8.jpg

It shows the Harvey books that L Miller & Co distributed in the UK throughout the 1960s, identifiable by their 'LM' UK price stamps like so:

Any idea which title 'Teddy' might be? It's either a complete mistake, or a miscommunicated title.

Was there a notable Harvey character called Teddy?

Joe Palooka, maybe? hm

The Harvey's might have been on the rack since early July, and just hadn't sold yet.  Or, it could have just been a bit of movie "magic" to fill the rack...hm

Harveys needed to be bumped up anyway! I'll have to see what more I might be able to add.

:foryou:
