Why would the Vertigo Gallery be a key Preacher book?

 

Preacher pin-up. There is no date on this comic so it likely predates Absolute Vertigo.

Absolute Vertigo came out in the spring of 1995 (not winter 1995 as it says on the cover) - the Vertigo Gallery came out later that year (after the release of Preacher #1).

 

And how might you have learned this? Thanks for the info.

 

Also has anyone ever heard that this might be an appearance of The Saint of Killers in Hitman?

Yeah, I've seen that in several other places too.

 

Absolute Vertigo was a preview book for several titles that hadn't been released yet - seeing that Preacher #1 was published in April 1995, Absolute Vertigo is guaranteed to have been released prior to that.

That is a very different looking list than I was picturing from the #6 to #20 example. I was impressed with the steady readership and consistency but there is none. It ran up to 93,656 on #9 and down to 78,087 on #16 which would cover about 4 months. Since #1 the print run has dropped 14 times and risen 5 times. This book is all over the board. Still, it brings decent $ in recent sales.

You weren't expecting no variance in orders issue to issue, were you? The variance in orders from 6 to 20 is about 12%, with that 12% not being a back end declining trend. 12% to me is statistically insignificant and is probably about as steady an ordering trend as you will be able to find. Bottom line - SSM orders have been steady and stable from issue 6.

#20 was not properly solicited to include the JSC variant. Originally it was something else and then at the last minute, they had JSC provide the art.

 

I know many retailers would have over ordered #20 had they known this variant was an option at a 1:50 ratio.

I think so, yes. 20, as noted above, may not have had the orders it could have had. 22 has another JSC variant (but, it is a Venom appearance, so may see increased orders anyway)

 

Certainly, SSM 1 got a boost from multiple variants.
