Ouch - Latest CGC Submission = FAIL....

130 posts in this topic

Wow, my grades came in (well, all but 3) and I'm stunned in a bad way by the results. I got a pile of 9.2/9.4 moderns..... :tonofbricks: It's by far the largest submission I've made and I'm wondering if I packaged them poorly and they got dinged a bit in transit hm , because I was batting about .875 getting 9.8s from my modern submissions.

Well, there will soon be some cheap slabs for sale here... :censored: I was really hoping for 9.6-9.8 across the board with a perhaps my first 9.9... I'm actually going to lose money on several

Sorry, but I think most of us have experienced a bit of pain at times (along with pleasure) of the sub game. Sorry to hear about this. :( That 275 Conan 9.8 is sexy tho :takeit:

And I'm surprised it's a 9.8... So what do I know?

Seriously I had a stack of raw #275s to choose from and I only submitted these 2. They all have bindery chipping and/or spine split at the bottom. I guess that's why the 9.8s get sweet money - most suffer from the problems above.

Why take the chance in having a pre-screener pull books out of the submission, that might have been given a 9.8 by the graders?

You take a few 9.6 in your submission and say "oh well."

Pre-screening 9.8 moderns is a dumb idea.

Because then you don't pay $12 or more to slab a comic that shouldn't be slabbed. (subtracting the $3 prescreen fee if any...)

There's a topic that hasn't been brought up yet though... Wonder if it will? hm

It's a really good idea if you don't know how to grade.

I would amend that by saying it's good if you don't know how CGC grades.

I'm just saying I find my grading to be a bit tighter than theirs. That was the biggest thing I needed to learn, that just because I thought something wasn't a 9.8 didn't mean they wouldn't think it was.

There are several factors. Price might be the biggest.

The higher the value of the 9.8's, the less pre-screening will benefit you.

If we're talking about 9.8s with a value of $30-$50, then pre-screening is the way to go.
