Massive late 50s/early 60s DC collection unearthed!!

1,017 posts in this topic

Hey guys, my dad (peewee22) and I just purchased an original owner 1950s/early 60s DC collection. It is massive and contains most every DC series in this era. The owner, who is 66, purchased the collection off the stands from a local drug store in Colorado, where he grew up. We have made a friend for life in communciations with him.

There are approx 2,000 books in the collection. We received approx 400 books today (the creme de la creme books). Others will be forthcoming. The books are in very nice condition (some sustained a little water damage from a leak), have nice pages, etc. We were expecting a 5.0 to 6.0 collection but it appears we have a 7.0 to 8.0 collection. You can imagine the anticipation in getting the books. USPS Priority Mail took 5 days so we've been worrying and worrying lately but they finally came in today. To put it bluntly, we are in awe. We will probably keep most of the books (to avoid excessive PMs) but we will decide this later. All Boardies deserve to share in this affair.

Note Dad reading the WW 105 (he said this book is rare). Enjoy the scans.

Bryan.

Our first showcasing is going to be Our Army at War, which is possibly my favorite series of the collection. The numbers included is 47-125 minus about 15 comics. These are probably some of the nicest copies ever unearthed. The average is 8.0 or better. The gloss, PQ, and corners are superior. No water damage whatsoever to these. We are the first to open these up since the late 50's. The 81,82,83, and 91 are (thankfully) some of the nicest books of the collection. Our 91 could push a 9.0, which would make it the lone highest graded copy. Enjoy.

Hey, they are part mine too as I am Bryan's Dad and financed this thing !!

It is surreal to go through this collection. Many of the books are over 50 years old and not opened since storage.

I will not live to see another one of these...and we have not even mentioned the letters CGC.. lol

Congrats, great collection. What are your plans for them?

I think right now we are just going to post and enjoy the collection.

(I see Walt Disney is in your avatar of books. Well, there are many 50s DDs and WDs in the collection including the 25 cent issues).

Wow!!! Congratulations! Great OAWs! (worship)

Given that the books were accumulated in that mystical comic haven known as Colorado, how`s the general PQ of the books?

How did you guys meet the OO in the first place?
