Ok, so I saw a little trend going on in another post. Post the first OA you purchased....if you still have it. Feel free to show off what got you hooked into this dark, fun world. And a way welcome the new peeps in our hobby.

Here's mine:

Trying to get us to tell stories about our 'firsts', eh? OK, I'll play. :applause:

I was a 'Sketch Card' collector long before I graduated to a proper OA collector.

I can recall my first sketch card vividly, didn't pull it from a pack but bought it at a (now sadly defunct) comic shop called Shinders in Minneapolis. It turned out to be one of the most common sketch cards for that set, a Spider-Man closeup by sketch card maestro John Czop. It has since been augmented by Mr Czop with watercolors.

I sadly don't recall exactly which of my collection was my first published OA. It could be one of about 4-5 pages, but if you held my feet to the fire I'd guess it was this Michael Golden page:

I do recall which was my first professional size OA (ie.e 11x17 on blueline), a Doctor Doom surprise freebie courtesy of Anthony Castrillo:

...which, judging by the ViewCount, remains a Fan Favorite in my galleries.

I'll play this fun game too!

I first realized that you can get comic art originals via the comicon.com site, which talked about it. I eventually bought a few pages from there, including a Miracleman page (I should have bought more..)

However, my first page was actually bought at a local show (after I read about the concept from comicon.com).

I got both a published page and a sketch from that show, both from Tim Sale!

My first published page - Tim Sale Superman For All Seasons page

My first sketch - Tim Sale Wolverine Quick Sketch

I'm glad I still have these pages after all these years.

I think my first OA purchase was actually one of my smartest buys.

Still love this page, which can be viewed here:

Batman Shadow Of The Bat #1, page 15 - the 1st appearance of Mr. Zsasz !

by the ubber talented Norm Breyfogle.

I think I came full circle this year when I finally found and bought Breyfogle's

art which was created for the Batman: Shadow Of The Bat poster (which was

published when the first issue saw light):

I put this on the other thread. Hope you don't mind the repeat.

My first purchase: Superman by Curt Swan

Click the link to read about its history and about its "twin." It's kind of interesting.

My first commission: Supergirl, Comet and Streaky by Jim Mooney

If I'd had half a brain, I'd have had him do the full Legion of Super-Pets. :)

I bought this page nearly 12 years ago (wow!) at a BotCon Transformers convention. The convention organizer announced that they were selling artwork on behalf of artist Geoff Senior at the front of the convention hall. Never having collected comic art, but being a huge fan of the Transformers comics, I darted up front and picked the page I liked the most.

To this day, I regret not buying more. Geoff Senior artwork is incredibly scarce and that event is the only time I know of his artwork being offered to the public.
