No, Australian. I don’t think there have been Austrian editions, at least not in the 1950s…

You missed my humour. I took that quote from the movie Dumb and Dumber. ;) Pretty sure there are lots of 50's Australian books?

There are a HUGE number of Australian books - but they are variants of variants...

e.g. The CA book in question 1) USA version 2) UK L Miller version 3) Australian version of the L Miller book

Also see my Nature Boy no.3 example

I'll get some more pics for you

I'm thinking of getting the Daredevil and Spider-Man comics CGC SS'd by Stan Lee the conditions are like 6-7.5 ish. Will they hold their value? Is there a market? These are Italian.

My honest opinion on that would be that if at some point you decided to sell them, having them SS might well open up a larger base of interested buyers. There are collectors out there that wouldn't ordinarily buy a foreign edition that might buy one that's signed. People that are into SS can be a little nuts, being one of them I should know. lol

This is an interesting question… you must think globally if you think of value. If we are talking local American markets LSC is right getting books SS graded by big names will help. But my experience in the local American market is that for the majority of people searching for these books it is a key based game. Just like in the American market a key will command 6 or 7 times the value of the book that precedes it in the run…. the same is true for foreigns. Some rare foreign types of any book that are not often seen on the market can command a premium but for the most part its "key" based. The market here in America is small but seems to be growing for foreign books…. Maybe a hold and sit for a few years might be smart? hm

Now this is where you think globally.. I have never sold books on ebay, not one! But if you list your auction not only here in America but in the country of origin you might have results that surprise you. Markets elsewhere have had time to figure out what local books have rarity and in doing so have value. For instance vaillant has talked about how the adhesive stickers that were placed in many Italian books very often were separated from the books they came in. This means in Italy at least any book with adhesive stickers is more desirable for collectors there. Now vaillant would have to elaborate but I think some research into the different countries will help you figure out which books might be candidates for SS here or candidates for CGC to be sold also in those countries.

I also think the novelty in foreign markets for CGC graded books might be a newer phenom so who knows maybe this is a new angle to selling books overseas or elsewhere? :gossip:

Yes, as Matthew observed the value here in Italy right now depends chiefly on two conditions. The "key" issues question is very relative here, unless we are speaking of the first italian issues (not necessarily coinciding with original "keys).

It’s more a question of rarity, and of the aforementioned two conditions:

1) Grade. Italian books are tough to find in very high grades, so collectors are more interested in very fine books.

2) If the issue includes or not (where present) the original stickers and/or posters issued with them. For example, if your Devil #12 includes the original poster which came with it, it can be sold for a multiple of its price.

Personally, I don’t think those are worth being certified. Signature series could interest collectors which love that particular issue, but those are common.

Examples: the Devil #12 more or less should go for 8-12 Euros in that condition, see here: http://www.ebay.it/itm/LINCREDIBILE-DEVIL-n-12-Editoriale-Corno-/190397206139?pt=Fumetti_Occidentali&hash=item2c548ece7b

The Defenders #4 is quite common, too. Examples: http://www.ebay.it/itm/Editoriale-Corno-I-Difensori-N-4-/310208163873?pt=Ulteriori_titoli&hash=item4839d8f021

http://www.ebay.it/itm/CORNO-DIFENSORI-4-OTTIMO-/290417804304?pt=Fumetti_Occidentali&hash=item439e400410

I guess a mid-high grade copy could go for 8 Euros at best.

The Uomo Ragno #41 seems in nicer condition. A pair of examples:

http://www.ebay.it/itm/LUOMO-RAGNO-N-41-CORNO-OTTIMO-AA-/271027600681?pt=Fumetti_Occidentali&hash=item3f1a80fd29

http://www.ebay.it/itm/UOMO-RAGNO-n-41-EDITORIALE-CORNO-/221081022506?pt=Fumetti_Occidentali&hash=item337974b02a

I think in these conditions it could go anywhere from 10-12 to 20-25 Euros (yes, pricing is very unreliable here, since collectors are mostly unaware, and grading is

often pretty haphazard, saying in general "in ottime condizioni" which could mean everything from VG to VF+.

My advice would be selling them either RAW on the boards, at a slightly higher price than those I mentioned because it would be handy for US collectors to avoid overseas shipping (usually no less than 8-10 USD for a single book) or have the Devil and the Uomo Ragno CGC'd with Stan Lee SS. The Defenders is nice but Steve Gerber is dead and so is Jim Mooney (God bless them) and don’t know if Sal Buscema does SS sessions.

Hope this helps, ;)

Claudio

Buscema has done a couple of SS signings in the last 2-3 years but is definitely tougher to get and not getting easier as he gets older and does fewer signings.
