Where do ya spend your money...

New here, love to know, of the total cash spent on old books, not new stuff, where do you spend it and why?

Conventions?

eBay/auction?

Stores?

Private deals, for instance, with someone on this board?

Other (explain)?

Curious because at the Tysons show yesterday I found myself saying, when I looked at about every book, "Bah, I can find this cheaper on eBay." Ditto with books at stores. Yes, there is risk, and if I was looking for $250+ books, which I'm not at the moment, I'd probably ditch the eBay savings for being able to see stuff up close. Call it a "certainty premium" which is effectively the difference between book value and what you can get it for on eBay.

I went to a con and only spent $34 on 4 books, some Daredevil's in the low 100s, a Marvel Feature and a Marvel Premiere that were all just single issue hole fillers I figured I'd have problems finding easily on eBay. Last 5 cons before that I averaged $500 per show. I'm no big spender mind you. I'm still trying to trim my new issue purchasing to allow for buying more old stuff.

I'm currently 5% Cons, 80% eBay, 5% stores, 10% private deals (usually people who I bought books from on eBay, whose collections I further pillage)
