Checked the Grand Comics Database, they don't know either.

Thanks for checking...worth noting that it's the first issue with original contents.

Even though these contained reprints of earlier newspaper strips,

they were ones that I had never read but contained characters that

I was familiar with...and there was a lot of variety in each issue.

Cool. It's obvious from this cover that Bill Holman was a big influence on the cartoonist Kaz.

As a matter of pure curiosity, I wonder what value, if any, would be placed on

this single page from DETECTIVE COMICS #168.

Only two copies of this title...as I mentioned before, these comics were available

at my Barber Shop and as the wait was usually long, I didn't have to buy them.

They wouldn't let me read the POLICE GAZETTE at my age.

Going through my coverless copy of ALL-STAR #21 I ran across this with

FAT & SLATS names...don't remember seeing this before.

One of those action-packed covers...with STREAK The Wonder Dog getting

top billing.

TERRIFIC ISSUES! :applause::applause::applause::applause::applause:

I wonder why so much detail about the writing on top of page one?

Good point. I'm not sure whether that label note is meant to alert someone that the book has a hidden flaw (the way they sometimes point out that a puzzle in a kids book has been filled in), or as an indication that the book comes from a particular collection whose owner used that code in keeping track of his books. Or maybe some of both.

That hands-to-face guy in Shadow V4 #2 sure gets around! Used on a number of '40s covers and as late as the Perfect Crime issue #12:

According to Overstreet, this character also appeared in EXPOSED #5 and OUTLAWS #5.

I don't know whether that's artists swiping from each other or a common '40s way of expressing consternation (I think it was pretty common in movies of that era) -- or maybe some of both.
