It was the UNION NEWS...a chain of newsstands in railroad stations across

the country. I haven't been back to NEWARK since 1952 so I have no idea

if it's still there. It was a big circular counter right inside the lobby entrance

that sold papers, magazines, candy and cigars, etc.

Would love to know, did Airboy get up and then what happened

AIRBOY who has amnesia knocks "Pierre Cheval" out, but is told he killed him

and is forced to fight for the mob as "Forgetful Jones"...the story is continued

in the next issue Vol. 6 No. 4 which I don't have,

Every so often we would take the bus to Bloomfield for shopping and

at the Bloomfield Bus Stop was a Cigar Store/Newsstand that had different

comics than the stores I went to in Newark...books like BLUE BEETLE.

I always enjoyed finding newspaper comic reprint books like KING COMICS

and SUPER COMICS on the newsstand. When I picked these comics up I

was still ready the strips in the daily newspaper. To me as a kid it was fun

to be able to read the early adventures of my favorite characters.

While going through my collection it appears I was buying comics with

CAPTAIN MARVEL before any BATMAN'S or SUPERMAN'S with the

first being WHIZ #49 from December 1943 and a coverless CAPTAIN

MARVEL ADVENTURES #31 from January, 1944 followed by CAPTAIN

MARVEL ADVENTURES #34. The earliest BATMAN or SUPERMAN

comics are from 1945.

There were a lot of great Whiz covers around Dec 1943.

I posted this in the Fawcett group but it is was also a good time for Capt. Marvel Jr. (from 1942-143).
