Received a grade on my ZOO FUNNIES #101 (1).

Thought it might be labeled as 1st Charlton Comic...but "...since nowhere on

the book Charlton is mentioned, we will not be noting it.".

Funny because Overstreet does note it and CGC generally follows Overstreet. So much so that sometimes when CGC garbles a note label, you can trace it back their having misunderstood the entry in Overstreet.

From CGC..."Regardless of Overstreet we generally go by the book itself if there is a

contradiction by policy..."

Heritage also lists it as the "first-ever" Charlton Comic.

Part of the enjoyment of going back through my collection is finding

gems like this JOKER story that I didn't ever remember from issue #19

of WORLD'S FINEST.

Going through my collection, I ran across this issue of BOY COMICS

#33 with a very interesting letter to the editors on the "What's On Your

Mind?" page.

From Richard Lavine, Bronx, NY..."I've a complaint to make, prize or no prize.

Why do you put those short stories in your otherwise top-notch book?

I haven't seen one boy out of thirty take an interest in them. Waiting for your

answer I remain...."

The answer from the editors: "It is a Post Office requirement."

Richard Lavine received a prize...Two Dollars.

I always used to wonder about the purpose of those text stories, as well, until eventually reading the explanation.

Now that I think about it, I don't believe I've ever seen anyone advertise a comic for sale claiming that it has a great text story. Makes me think, they were probably mostly drek! :D
