Ladies and Gentlemen.

My prediction for Sleeper book of 2013.

Rest In Peace Department is from 1999 - 2000 and has now been made into a $150 million film.

It is being released in July - Sept this year (location dependant) this year and stars Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Bacon, Jeff Bridges and Mary-Louise Parker.

Comic had a less than 5000 print run and is very hard to get in 9.8.

Sales range from $60 - ish on ebay to $4 from when I got really lucky!

I can't find any on GPA to indicate sales or indeed any on the census.

This could really heat up very quickly!

Print run was 6843.

The movies are ongoing though. (shrug)

+1, I did say the SA Marvel thing, but I guess i meant Marvel in general. Any time a character is introduced to the shared universe, there is no way of knowing how many more appearances they will make. It is more "serial" like a tv show, and then marvel also tends to boost their presence in the Comic Universe as well after.

People trash the big 2 a lot on the modern boards, but a shared universe does create a longevity that creator owned properties will never have. The Marvel movies, in addition to the serial/on-going nature, also make relevant characters that were under appreciated. Look at GoG, they were worthless essentially and now a whole generation of kids is going to grow up knowing them and their related Disney toys.

I'm glad I got back my 1-4 already and it's still a top census set. No waiting for cgc turn around for me. Just waiting to see what happens.

Also found a #3 in decent shape today for $0.50, but it won't go higher than a 9.2.

I for one have been on board for this book for months, looking for only 9.8 candidates, and found 5. These 5. I also have 2-4 in 9.8 quality too. I'm still on the hunt for more tho.

Andy's 100% correct on this. 9.8 candidates are ridiculously hard to find. Trust me, I've searched high and low.

Why? Well because of these.

transformers001.jpg

These were $12-15 in guide. A year before the film, I started looking for 9.8 candidates, and found about 24 of the 30something I had. I watched as they went from roughly $150ish to $400+. I sold one a week for 20something weeks. Yes I got multiple pm's asking just how many more I had though lol.

Point is, I'm pretty cautious these days, but this does have all the signs: low print, frickin hard to get in 9.8, and oh $200 million dollar film. Except this time it's a better director than Michael Bay.

Please, don't believe us, that way I can get more 9.8 candidates tho.

I do want to reiterate one thing tho. I understand Transformers has a much bigger audience in regards to comics etc. BUT these at low cost = $$ for you guys. Everyone's looking for Sixth Gun now, so I'm just tryin to think of the next 6th gun. :foryou:

No comparison.... No one in the general public has EVER heard of R.I.P.D. Transformers has been around for many years in cartoon form, in toys and in movies.

And as for Andy70's comparisons to Iron Man - I don't think this book can truly be compared to a much loved character in the Marvel Universe that has had a huge following for years.

I hope I'm wrong for everyone holding this book, but I think the spike will be minimal

"can someone give me a good example of a book that saw a sustained boost from a movie? Outside of Silver Age marvels (that already had value, but maybe were more overlooked) I cant really think of any movie bumps that dont go right back down after the movie. "

That was the question asked.

I was not comparing RIPD to Iron Man - that would be madness!

I was saying though, that Iron Man became an A lister because of the films.

Hopefully like RIPD will become desireable because of this film.

You misunderstood - I was just saying that the upcoming advertising campaign should put some Ooomph into RIPD.

And as there are so few now on ebay,if any, then this seems quite a reasonable statement. :foryou:

Well, if that baffles you, tell me why this will be more Iron Man than Cowboys and Aliens. That was a little known comic property as well. So was Whiteout. Why don't people ever talk about those comics that actually got made into movies?

unless the movie transitions into a tv show, I really don't see much happening with this title. TV is often times the catalyst to turn a modern comic into a hot property, the reason being it's in your home most every week and the buzz (if it's good) builds and spreads. Movies just can't generate that type of consistent hype. They're a 1 and done. But, I do hope it does well for you guys who are hoarding it.
