Why is it when you post a question on this site, you get 10 insufficiently_thoughtful_person responses.?

 

This is a great place, but with a serious question, you get 10 foolish responses , people making fun of people, etc...and to finally get a real answer you have to scroll through page after page...Jesus, very annoying..

 

I think because you have all types on the board. Childish kids, or adults who never grew up from being childish kids. Or normally nice people having a bad day. Or people trying to be clever. etc etc. I think the key is to just ignore those comments and focus on the ones that add some value.

 

(I also don't really understand all the replies that consist of just a smiling face, or some other face. And of course, now there'll probably be a gazillion replies to this post with just a face ... cause that's really funny.)

 

But it's not limited to this board. If you look at the comments on ESPN articles or online newspaper articles, it's amazing the idiotic and unhelpful things people say.

It's a combination of things. But mainly it's people who take some sort of weird pride in acting like a doosh towards their fellow man and people who're trying desperately to be clever.

 

 

And also people that are doing both.

 

And then there are those people who look down their noses at those attempting to be clever. As if their arrogant views about what they deem clever is the sole determinant.

 

Right. Maybe if people were more genuine towards each other and took pride in being kind instead of being an azz clown we wouldn't have to worry about it.

 

People are genuine towards each other. Look at all the personalities that are here. You can guess with a pretty good amount of accuracy which ones will react in any given situation. If that isn't genuine, I don't know what is.

 

And I'll take those who exhibit some humor any day over those who make arrogant judgments about that fact that some people are clever and some aren't.

 

I love good natured ribbing between pals and I'm a big fan of humor. It's just too bad the majority of the people here think they're a lot funnier than they actually are

I try to live my life the way of Bushido, or to put it in simpler terms by the Golden Rule. If more people did that there would be a lot less butthurt IMHO.

One of the keys to understanding butthurt is to recognize that some people take themselves too seriously. Butthurt is about the perception of persecution, disrespect and mistreatment, and rarely a response to actual persecution, disrespect or mistreatment.

 

I agree to an extent as there are always people who are looking to be offended and can take a general observation made and take personal offense to it.

And who determines what "adds value"? You? If someone makes a comment I find funny but you don't, was value added?

 

Some of us have been here for 10 years. There's an established board culture. It behooves a newb to figure out what that culture values and decide whether or not that is congruent with what they value. If it isn't, move on.

 

The irony is, those newbs who take it upon themselves to tell this board they're 'doing it wrong' actually demonstrates a certain amount of childishness, arrogance and certain lack of social skill. The implication is that you can just walk into a situation in which you've contributed or invested nothing, and think you know how things 'should be'.
