Still waiting for anything resembling a cogent defense of Waid's writing ability.

Your move, slick.

I like Waid's writing.

Your chance for a rebuttal, little willy.

I think Mr. Waid is quite talented as well. Balls in your court, bud.

(thumbs u

I find it very interesting that your post mentions video games and compares the Man of Steel film to that genre. I agree with that. I felt I watched someone else play a Superman fight game rather than an awesome movie.

That's what I figured. What I can't figure out is how some of my non board comic book buddies can talk about the movie, say they're "huge" fans of Superman and then say with a straight face how they "finally got Superman right".

Am I missing something in the translation? (shrug)

Comic collectors are the old guard and gamers are the future, I guess. (shrug)

Maybe. I read Mark Waid's reveiw of the movie and he called it "joyless". ::sigh::

Name me one good comic book written by Mark Waid?

:/

You lost me at this point.

Waid is - and has been for 15 years - one of the better writers in the comic book medium.

I am sure he is a decent comic book writer, but ask yourself

if millions read his best comic book work over these last 15 years would it entertain millions of people like videogames such as

Official_cover_art_for_Bioshock_Infinite.jpg

assassins-creed-3-ankuendigung.jpg

gears_of_war_ba.jpg

The answer is not likely.

Waid`s style maybe was big in the 1990s,but millions of people have been exposed to a fast pace kinda style now.

Cellphones,HDTV,Internet and videogames.

Man of Steel fits right in with this new fast paced style of exciting entertainment.

Waid`s stuff is something that would work maybe as a weekly tv show.

So, because more people play video games than read Waid's comics, they are better and more 'exciting entertainment'?

In which case, internet porn is the pinnacle of creativity. meh

Finally, something I think we can ALL agree with.

No. I'm right and you're wrong because...

A) you saying he has no writing ability is just... incorrect.

B) he HAS written every major character for the big two. Why you think he hasn't is just.... Incorrect.

Here's your proof: Grand Comics Database

Checked the link you provided.

If your definition of major characters is popularity and longevity, then where is Thor and Wonder Woman?

If it's based on quality, but still narrowly confined to Super-Dupers, then where is the Fourth World?

If it is based on artistic merit, I don't see Jimmy Corrigan, Maggie Hernandez, Miracleman, or Sandman.

Still waiting for anything resembling a cogent defense of Waid's writing ability.

Your move, slick.

:gossip: Thor is in the Avengers and Wonder Woman is in the JLA (plus Kingdom Come)

28 years writing for the big two, you'll run into a few of these characters.

As far as a 'cogent defense of Waid's writing ability', you can wait as long as you'd like. I took issue with you saying he had no talent. Your wrong. End of story.

Your move, kid.

You ignored two thirds of my post and then repeated your tired "you're wrong, I'm right nonsense." Except you substituted the incorrect "your" for "you're."

I'm not normally a grammar nazi, but if you're going to make grand proclamations from the mountain top, you should at least avoid embarrassing mistakes my 4 year old would notice.

No, I ignored whatever nonsense you're trying to use to deflect the point.

A) he has written ever major hero for the big two

and B) saying he has 'no talent' would be incorrect.

You can try and branch off the discussion into whatever you need to make yourself seem right 'yeah, but he's no Neil Gaiman!', but that isn't what is being debated.

Nice try, slugger.

Foreign Box Office: 'Man of Steel' Big in U.K., Pushing Overseas Total to $25.9 Mil

The decision to cast British actor Henry Cavill as Superman is paying off in his home country, where the tentpole scores the best opening-day gross of 2013 so far.

Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan's Man of Steel grossed $17.6 million at the foreign box office on Friday, scoring some of the best numbers ever for a superhero film in the U.K. and pushing the tentpole's three-day total to $25.9 million.

That puts Man of Steel's worldwide cume at $82 million through Friday when accounting for the $56.1 million earned so far in North America, where it is headed for a weekend debut in the $125 million range. The tentpole's performance is a victory for Warner Bros. and Legendary as they look to resurrect the marquee franchise.

Sex sells as aren`t bondage, good girl art and headlight golden age covers the most popular amongst golden age collectors. :baiting:

If you have been exposed to playing modern videogames then yes,as Waid`s or just about any comic book comes out a tad pedestrian now.The genie is out of the bottle. It`s like comparing dial up to broadband. There is really no contest. I am sorry you have missed out on the experiences and fun of playing some top notch video games this last decade.Really they are cutting edge. Only certain shows like Game of Thrones,Dexter,Mad Men,Sons of Anarchy and Breaking Bad can give them a run for their money. That is how high the quality that videogames is at now. Remember how comics are not for kids, well the majorty of videogames are now played by adults. In fact more adults play videogames then read comics. So if your business smart you will market to these mainstream videogamers much more then you would to a niche comic book audience. Bigger market means way more money!

Also Hollywood is now doing a better job as well with superheroes then comics. The Nolan trilogy was better then any Batman comic book I ever read.

Same with Iron Man and now Superman,as their movie counterparts are far more interesting than anything comics has given us recently.

Also I take umbrage in that videogames are talked down on here. This seems certainly ironic from a group of people whose comic books were always put down as being juvenile fiction by mainstreamers. So are you trying to say that the modern videogame is more juvenile than a modern comic book? lol

Lastly maybe Waid is a decent funnybook writer, but he certainly isn`t much of a businessman as Warner was smart to go their way,and not Waid`s way.

Man of Steel on it`s way to being a blockbuster!

I will stand by my statement the Man of Steel is now the benchmark that all other superhero movies will follow now.

I held my pee. That's about as high a praise as I could give any movie especially for 2.5 hrs though it was only really in the last half hr that my bladder was screaming at me. Usually ill just get up and go quickly during a lull but this movie had me not wanting to miss a second. Let me tell you I shot outta there faster than a speeding bullet to the restroom credits be damned! But yeah, I liked it enough to hold my pee. 2c

I just returned from the theater and have to say that I was under impressed by this movie. I felt the characters had far too little development and the fight scenes appeared to be, very much like one of the other posters in this thread stated, like a video game. I thought that the casting was fine and Amy Adams is always cute as a button, but the -script was lacking. Not the worst hero movie, but I will say that after almost 40 years I would still watch the first Superman movie again. This one, I never need to see again.
