Conans

Punishers

Tarzans

Sheena

I was going to add the Conan movies, but read that the source material coming from the comics (including a -script co-written by Roy Thomas) were rejected when Oliver Stone became involved.

With Tarzan, were any of the movies based on the comics?

Sheena: Queen of the Jungle (1984) needs to be added. Thanks for catching this.

After... - Incredible Hulk, The (2008)

toss in the "Iron Man" trilogy. :)

doh!

Thanks!

Welcome. (thumbs u

I was going to say "A Boy and His Dog (1976)" but turns out that bizarre movie was adapted from Harlan Ellison short stories. :( Oh well.

I was debating whether the "Asterix" films would qualify, however since "Tin Tin" and "Dick Tracy and Flash Gordon have got guernseys, why not:

"Asterix and Obelisk Take on Caesar" - 1999

"Asterix and Obelisk: Mission Cleopatra" - 2002

"Asterix at the Olympic Games" - 2008

"Asterix and Obelisk: God Save Britannia" - 2012

These are the live action offerings, usually with Gerard Depardieu.

Oldboy 2003 too

John Carter

Good catch on Oldboy (2003). I just read the summary, and how it was part of a trilogy though only Oldboy is listed as manga-based.

With John Carter, its influence didn't come from the comic books, but rather from the original source material.

It is based on A Princess of Mars, the first book in the Barsoom series of novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

That was my reason for not including it, though I really liked this movie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The Toxic Avenger

Both were films first before becoming comic books. But I did learn something about Buffy when doing the research.

Joss Whedon has expressed his disapproval with the movie's interpretation of the -script, stating, "I finally sat down and had written it and somebody had made it into a movie, and I felt like — well, that's not quite her. It's a start, but it's not quite the girl."

In 1999, Dark Horse Comics released a graphic novel adaptation of Whedon's original -script under the title, The Origin. Whedon stated: "The Origin comic, though I have issues with it, CAN pretty much be accepted as canonical. They did a cool job of combining the movie -script with the series, that was nice, and using the series Merrick and not a certain OTHER thespian who shall remain hated."
